Sometimes when I close my door it doesn't latch and bounces off the striker plate. A few times that door has swung open on its own while I'm driving. When this happens, I have to reopen and close the door a few times to make it latch and close properly. I'm not sure if this is something bent, broken, or misaligned somewhere. The door is lined up properly with the car, as best I can tell.
Whats going on with it?

My guess is the latch mechanism is either worn out or just nasty dirty with old grease and dirt. I've had this problem and a thorough cleaning of the latch and all the friction points took care of it.
