I have a 1968 mustang with a 289 engine, I was wondering, does it matter which way I should hook up the water valve motor. Does the lower port go to the fire wall or the top port go to the fire wall. Thanks Al. There is no arrow on the valve, the only thing is that theres a upper port and a lower port for the heater hoses.

I'm not to sure what a water valve motor is but the lower hose port on the firewall goes to the intake manifold, the upper port goes to the water pump.

Is there an arrow for direction of flow?? Valve should be on supply aide of the heater core.

Pressurized water from the intake always goes to the bottom of the heater core. This is to avoid trapping air in the core. The water pump provides suction to pull water from the core’s top fitting.

It's entirely possible that I am full of the old stuff but I think the Vintage Air Gen IV system has the bottom of the core connected to the upper nipple coming through the firewall. I seem to recall checking that back in '15 when I put things back together...at least, that's how I have the hoses on the Heap connected......manifold to the upper nipple and pump to the lower.
If someone proves this wrong let me know and I'll change things some day.

Bob, according to the Vintage Air installation manual, the water supply is on top and the return is on bottom. However, I think the Original Poster was asking about the stock heater hose locations for a 68, which Gary answered.

Exactly, Ron. Thanks for the ref. to the VA instructions...mine are "stored" in a very safe place, I'm sure. I was sure the question was referencing a stock setup and I should have been more specific.

The Vintage Air Gen IV instructions I have indicates the heater control valve goes to the intake manifold (inlet water to the heater core), and the lower hose (outlet) goes to the pump.

That is interesting. I looked at the Vintage Air Gen IV on line installation manual for the current systems they are selling that show the feed from the pump going to the top. How old is your system? Why would they change that?

page 11, figure 6 shows what you've stated Ron. These could be revised instructions......
