RIP Jessi Combs

She crashed a salt flats F104 starfighter converted to land speed record vehicle during a record attempt and was killed today.  She was one of my favorite Overhauiin' stars.  No details of the crash were given except one word: horrific.
Sure sorry to see her go.

Re: RIP Jessi Combs

Sad deal for sure. She was a heck of a role model for girls and women.

The F-104 was called "The Widowmker" by those who flew it.
RIP Jess, you were quite a girl!

Re: RIP Jessi Combs

YEP  this one hurt when I heard the news.  When I first saw her on TV, I called her the chubby welding girl on 4x4s and trucks.    now RIP , she went out doing what she loved.  Those jet/rocket cars go 450 to 550 mph.  Hope they put some good analysis AERO  engineers to figure out what failed.  This one I'll work for free.

Re: RIP Jessi Combs

Oh, that just sucks.  She was a very talented woman, and not at all soiled by celebrity.  I had loved watching her on 4X4, and was sad to see her go.  Then she popped up on Mythbusters so I googled her, found her website and actually sent her an email saying it was great to see her on the show and asking how she was doing physically (if you remember she suffered a serious back injury while rockclimbing while doing 4X4, which was why for a period she wasn't on the show and then couldn't do any heavy lifting).  She wrote me right back and said she was doing better than ever physically and her parting from 4X4 had mostly to do with them treating her like she was made of glass after she was recovered from the injury.  In the process of rehabbing and working to take better care of herself she slimmed down and got in great shape, and wanted to do more than ever.  We corresponded over several emails about a wide range of subjects.  It's truly a shame, she was a really down to earth person with a ton of talent.  The good ones always go young, too young.

RIP Jessi, you are and will be inspiration to many, My daughter is one and seeing Jessi's talent my daughter has become quite the welder. She is a senor and in the vocational welding class in her high school and  is looking to go to a trade school after she graduates.
