Progress on my BASH car...

I've been working on my '66 every weekend this year (and off-and-on for 19 years) to get it back on the road. This is the WYAIT Monster at it's worst! This started as a simple clean up on the engine bay of a pretty nice fb. Over the years I've changed everything but the block and the body.
Rebuilt 289/C4, strut front/4-wheel discs reverse-eye leafs with 1" lowering blocks, etc.  Interior will have leather buckets from a '95 Mustang, tilt idit column/Lecarra wheel. Getting new tires mounted on custom wheels tomorrow. Inside should be pretty durn quiet, with 4 kinds of insulation.

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

Looks very nice.  Engine bay looks very good. Shouldn't have any road noise.  Keep up the good work.

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

I like it. Trying to decide if I should use the Dynamat on the 67.$500 for kit sure seams high.

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

Well it sure looks like you accomplished cleaning up the engine bay. Plus a little more, looks good.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

The engine bay looks very clean and tastefully executed. So much so I'd paint that yellow coil and brown distribtor cap both black and wrap all the exposed wires in black wire loom tape. Not nit pickin ,just saying it's sooo clean, that those few small things now stick out to my eye....

It's hard to type "funny"

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

Looks really good.  Are you driving it to the bash?  I think all the last minute car work to "make it to the bash" is aptly called the BASH THRASH.

Hope to see you there!  Having all that high buck stuff is great, but driving it is priceless!

I'm in the middle of the "BASH THRASH" at the moment as well... time will tell if I get it ready in time or not.  If not I guess I'll just bring the F-150.

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be at the BASH. That will prolly be the test drive. Just found out the C4 died. Taking it to the shop Tues. It's truly amazing how hard this car has fought me in doin all the work I've done so far.
The wires will be hidden. Already hid the main harness to the right front and put the solenoid and relays under the batt tray. All other wires will have to wait, but will be hidden too. Derek, the coil for the electronic ign will be hidden too, after I add ac and ps. I'm putting black heat shrink on the yellow Accel 8.8 mm coil wire!
I've got a long weekend to rebuild carb, install and bleed all brake stuff, flush cooling system and add radiator and pulleys, and start installing interior.  It sounds good with a mild cam and Delta Flow 40s. 6sally6- its a Comp solid roller Mutha Thumper with open pipes!  j/k.   I can almost see the train at the end of the tunnel!

i see the high freq foam good job,   Did you use mass loaded vynal for low freq ( under the siliver stuff),, I am assuming thats for heat reflection and maybe vibration damping,,  Low freqs are where the road noise goes right thru vibe dampner like Dynamat,, ?? ,,, ideal set up is small strips of dampner,  inside cabin,   cacoon with mass vynal and foam,,  heat deflection is usefull at the heat sources, idealy under the body,

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

Don-  I used a layer of 1/16" isodamp with heavy foil, then a layer of 1/4" PSA foam with foil everywhere, then the dense foam on the inside of the quarters. Also used some rolled up Nomex/isodamp/Nomex blanket above and in front of the wheel wells. It's all surplus aviation insulating material.
I'm also using the Nomex blanket for the fuel tank cover as padding, sound damping, and it's flame-resistant.

Re: Progress on my BASH car...

midnite-
On the struts- I started with one of the very first Fatman kits but I should have waited a few years until they evolved to what they have now. I only used their crossmember and LCA. Glen B. and I came up with the other stuff. Mine has Global West strut rods, 1" anti-sway bar, SN95 spindles and Escort power rack. I'm putting in a manual rack for now, to get to the BASH.
Struts are KYB GR-2 with coilovers. The c/c plates are late-model Mustang aftermarket on a homemade mount that also holds the brace to the firewall.  Front brakes are 13" COBRAs with MS master/booster/pedal kit. Ultrastang/Rosehill 11.25" rear brakes.
I can't say how well it works since I haven't driven it yet. I'm working really hard to get it on the road.
