Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

This seems impossible after watching the video "A Faster Horse" where much time is spent to make sure the Mustang name wasn't tarnished with the 2015 restyle of the Mustang. They also point out that everyone at Ford wants to work on the Mustang. Now this.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

I'm not upset at all, but I really don't have any interest in the newer Mustangs. The 65 through 69's are great and I can kinda tolerate some of the Fox bodies, but that's it. And then a car starting at 44K is a little out of my budget anyway.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

It looks stupid with the blanked off grill. They are advertising it to get 250-300 miles per charge. No electric vehicle ever gets the miles/charge advertised, so they are starting out with a lie as a base premise. I don’t have a problem using the Mustang name on a SUV, but it looks like they left out the Sport part of Sport Utility Vehicle. A MGB GT body style with regular Mustang running gear would probably sell well. The people that buy electric cars are not generally Mustang fans, so their logic in using the Mustang name is questionable.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

I don't mind an electric Mustang, BUT, a Mustang has 2 doors, basically two passengers, Low to the ground and good cornering.  That is for the new ones.  Gen 1's are great where they stand.

One of the car shows on what then was called Velocity had a 68 FB with electric power.  It was a beast with something like 1000 lb-ft of torque at all speeds.  It was a monster.  I loved it.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

I mean, they kind of murdered the car from '74-'78, yet it came back strong, so anything is possible.  If it sucks its probably just a hiccup on the road.  Electric stuff?  Sure, fine, whatever.  They are a terrible idea and don't work for the way 80% of Americans drive, but if those people are stupid enough to continue to buy dead technology that's their problem.

Now Ford is saying they want to build it in China.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

It's funny how we think about the 1974 Mustang II.  I didn't like them either.  But, Motor Trend named the 1974 Mustang II the car of the year and it tripled the sales figures of the 1973 Mustang.  So actually, it was a big success for Ford.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

It's just the beginning of a Mach-E-odd-O or maybe a muck e odd O. I'm thinking they haven't used the Mach name for awhile so the name is to attract attention to the product. It ain't the first time. After making the mistake of naming the Mazda a Mustang they will never pre-introduce a car again.

Boy do you have that right TKO! I often wondered what the designers and project managers at Ford were on during 1974 - 1978...

Financial success and legacy are often disparate.  I mean, maybe we respect the K car as a huge success that cemented Lee Iacocca's legacy and saved Chrysler, but does anyone want to own one?  Them was dark days in '74.  Most of the decade actually.  I mean, the '77 Camaro was a pile, but managed to outsell the Mustang for the first and only time in history.  Ugh, dark, dark days.

I have to revise my initial post, I had not seen pics yet and did not realize they turned it into a SUV. I wish the announcement had waited till April 1st, it would make more sense then.

Not kidding. The initial production is scheduled for Mexico, but the Ford decision makers have expressed a desire to move production to China. Shows that the business plutocrats never mix with the man-on-the-street or they would know what the American working man thinks of an American company producing goods in China for sale in America. Of course the average buyer of electric vehicles probably has a more world view of things.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

The E thing is borrowed the 60's. The Mach thing just doesn't fit in a all (past history). Anybody remember the Silverado hybrid. What did they sell like 1.

No problem with the product. Hate the association with Mustang.

I'm not really a fan of cars being built in Mexico, well, until the said they would build it in China that is.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

They should have kept a horse theme and went with something like  Ford Shire.   Inspired by the Mustang.   What this will be is the second coming of the Edsel.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

Ugh, four door Mustang.  Thank the Lord that ended up only in the annals of automotive history.

Though, it would probably have made the two doors worth more...

I doubt Ford will release anything like another Edsel ever again.  Along with New Coke its a case study used at Harvard business school that's supposed to teach you what not to do.  The issue with the Edsel was that it didn't have its own price point and competed directly with Ford's other offerings.  It was too costly to produce for the price point they had available.  You can't build a product for a market that doesn't exist, and can't be created.  The relative quality or lack thereof of that product is immaterial if no one can buy it.

Re: Who else is pissed at the MACH-E being related to the Mustang name

Where would the 4 door Mustang be today? Between the Falcon and the Fairlane? Both of those cars were replaced by the Fairmont. (What was the Torino? A Falcon or a Fairlane?) The Mustang would have gone several years ago and hardly a sports car. We'll just have to wait and see what happens to this one. I ain't buying one! Electricity doesn't make the right noise.
