No worries here as I probably have a better chance at catching the flu.

Thought that's why the bash hotel was near the liquor store, kill the virus from the inside.

I needed to go home to Pa for while and drove back down south yesterday. Seem it business as usual everywhere.

I'm still trying to figure out what people are so concerned about. There was the same panic with SARS, which is just another variant of coronavirus. In the end it seems these things aren't as terrible as they're made out when they face a first world healthcare system.
I honestly wonder if its just a way to manipulate the markets. Fortunes aren't made in a boom; they're made in a downturn by the people who foresaw (or caused) it.
If that's not conspiracy theorist enough for you, I also wonder if these viruses aren't the result of bio warfare programs run by the Japanese on the Chinese in WWII.

This flu season in the US 4800 people have died for a mortality rate of 0.05%.
So far world wide 2817 people have died of Corona virus for a mortality rate of 3.4%. That is why everyone is excited.

I have my plane tickets paid for
I have my rental car paid for.
I have my hotel room paid for.
My wife goes to the doctor the week before the Bash to determine if she is healthy enough to go.
If the doctor clears her we have to make a judgement call about whether it will be safe sitting in an airplane for four hours each way.
Using my power of viewing the future I can see the odds of us making it to the Bash are about 1 in 10.
Bummer!

Driving to the bash in my 66 I would consider to be much safer than locked in an airtight tube with 150 people from who-knows-where.
I do have minor concerns being in crowds of unknown people.
Sherry is going on a cruise the end of May for a week I am a bit concerned about that. She and I have another cruise scheduled for November, so we will just have to see how this thing spreads. I am not wild about cruise ships and captive crowds in the first place. Sherry and I and Al’s wife got really sick after being exposed to one idiot that got on the bus coughing his lungs out during our New England bus tour last year.
Of course, if South Carolina becomes a corona hot-spot before the bash date, I would say no one would want to voluntarily go to that location. Or if you are visiting FROM a hot spot, please don’t bring the bug with you.
I do believe the USA will do a better job of containing this type of thing than the Chinese. Remember when ebola was a thing? In the USA it quickly became NOT a thing.
Prayers for the entire world are in order.

The only thing that would bother me about your trip is the Virus tube you're flying in. Many years ago on a trip back from Yemen the plane made a stop in Jedda, Saudi Arabia. A bunch of folks got on and they were all coughing and hacking away. Needless to say when I returned home I had similar hacks. I ended up at the Infectious disease center in Denver. I don't recall what they found, but I ended up with a yeast infection in my esophagus from the medication they gave me. Believe me when I tell you that you don't want any type of esophagus infection.

What's the mathematical formula used to establish those numbers?

What's the mathematical formula used to establish those numbers?
4800 flu deaths in the US this flu season divided by 9.7 million cases of flu, times 100 to get percentage
2817 deaths from Corona virus divided by 84000 confirmed cases worldwide. (Numbers have changed since I wrote this a few hours ago). Multiply by 100 to get percentage.
I realize that this is advanced math, so you might want to get Mike to help you with it.

You aren’t a conspiracy theorist with those thoughts. If you were a real conspiracy theorist you would be saying the Chinese turned the corona virus loose on the world to make Trump look bad.

But again, terrible that ANYONE dies from a simple virus, but there are viruses where the survival rate is about 10%. I don't remember this much panic when a case of Ebola turned up in the US. I also don't think any cases have been fatal outside China, so I go back to the idea that our healthcare system and China's are not by any means on level footing. I am left to wonder what the actual mortality rate is in a first world country.

I'll do you one better, are the Chinese actually reporting the truth about the virus to keep themselves from looking bad? First SARS, now this, that country is starting to look like one big virologist's experiment. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of controls on genetic modification in China. There are already people there who have had their DNA altered via CRISPR. Is this the result of an I Am Legend situation? Today's headlines in the Weekly World News...
