I like my A/C

Around 540 moons ago I owned a 1972 Pontiac Trans Am 455 HO w/4speed. Don't remember the rear gears but she would scoot. I lost my drivers license twice in this car. Anywho, I remember upgrading the cam/lifters and yanking the A/C out of the car. I remember cutting open the heater box to snatch the evaporator and then epoxying it back up. The fool things we do in our youth.

Fast forward 540 moons and I installed A/C in my 67 Coupe. I cannot believe how much I like the A/C in my 67. I can roll up the windows and talk to C while doing 80.

My how times have changed.

Re: I like my A/C

I say all the time it’s amazing how many nice cars I yanked the AC out of because it might have cost me 5HP, Now days I would give up 105 HP to have AC.

My 68 is getting power steering this summer and hopefully AC before next summer.

Talk about foolishness, Bavk in the day I had a 72 Nova with AC and power steering, It was a nice car, and I tore the power steering and AC out, and then had such a radical cam that I switch to manual breaks. It was miserable to drive by the time I was done.

Re: I like my A/C

I like my AC too that I installed last year.  I think I might need to add another can of Freon.   Its cool but I think it could be colder.  Going to a car show on Sunday and its suppose to be 87 degrees.  We'll see how well it works for the show!

Re: I like my A/C

You guys are gonna shame me enough to where I'll have to put in some A/C. I'm looking forward to the end result, but not the process.

I really did not think I would like the AC as much as I do. I installed it more for the humid states as me and HumDamnDidity don't get along so well. I also seem to like being able to sit in traffic on a 95F day and not melt into the upholstery.

All in all it may have been worth the hassle to install, but I'm here to tell you I'm not 17 anymore and do like the comforts the AC gives.

Next thing you know I'll be converting the 5 speed to a smash and go. I might be able to pick up RPM's FMX for cheap.

Re: I like my A/C

I’ve thought about a/c for my 66 but I just can’t bring myself to spend the money. Mostly because I don’t have the money. I disconnected the heater a long time ago because I didn’t like the look of the hoses under the hood. I have design an a/c system in my head from junkyard parts but just haven’t felt the need to do it.

Now don’t go gettin all excited. I said I was thinking about. Big difference between thinking and doin. I’ve yet to find someone that’s done it to maybe give me pointers, parts list and stuff. It could still happen if I live long enough .

Re: I like my A/C

Installing A/C is one of the best decisions I made on my Mustang.  Installation of the Vintage system was not a painful experience ... or least no more than other items I've added.

Re: I like my A/C

Driving home on a hot, humid rainy night in Georgia long ago Lin, says to me, “put a/c in this thing or I won’t be going on these long road trips anymore”
I ordered a CAA the day after we got home.
The install went quite well except being short changed on flex hose. I guess putting an extra foot of hose in the original package was too costly. Back then only cable operated systems were available, new ones are all electric which simplifies things more.
A couple of years ago I bought a set of HF gauges and added a half a can of 134A, other than that I’m more than pleased.

Did you snag the OE flywheel off the guy on vintage mustang?

I would like to see your parts list for this.
I’ve been “thinking” too. 😂

That’s what I’m looking for too. Surely someone has done this.

Probably won't happen. He apparently has never sold anything before and doesn't know the normal procedure. 🤣

No worries though. I've got a pristine OE used flywheel for $100 that I'll get balanced to my flex plate.
