    That Milodon pan I don't think is any lower profile than stock; its low profile for a larger sump pan because the sump is kicked out instead of just deeper.  It holds more oil without additional depth. 

    I run a stock pan on my '67, and a Canton pan on my '89 GT, which sits about 1" lower than stock ride height.  I really went with the Canton because it was a good budget pan for racing (its got some baffling, etc.).  I don't plan to race the car a ton, but for when I do its cheap insurance for my engine.

    Smart guys don't run the full capacity in these pans, they typically run 6 quarts total in the system.  There's two reasons for this.  First, the added capacity means you can move the oil farther away from the rotating assembly, which reduces parasitic power loss from windage and oil roping.

    Second, the stock Ford small block oil pump is so good that adding more oil will just totally over oil the top end.  This can cause oil to blow out the breathers because there's so much oil up top.  The baffles in the valve covers are designed to stop splash oil and oil vapor from escaping, not liquid oil.  At 8 quarts you are very close to double the capacity of the stock pan. 

    If you talk to Milodon they will tell you that the stated capacity is just that; what the pan can physically hold.  There's no reason to actually run it full, and 6 quarts is fine.
