A lot of them were used in those commercial air compressors. 4 of the cylinders were engine and 4 were air compressor.

Ford built a lot of engines over the years used in irrigation pumps, so that's also a possibility. Powerful engines of all kinds typically made their way into boats, especially speedboats. I'd be flatheads were no exception. My Dad had a Donzi years ago that had a BOSS302 in it. Later he had a 42' sport fisher that has a pair of 440 Chryslers in it.
