I imagine there will be a crate engine offered at some point. IMO though, interesting as this feasibility study may be, having more than 500-550HP in a typical RWD street car is just dangerous. There are dozens of videos of guys wrapping their Hellcat around a tree or telephone pole. Even if you can drive you still can't put the power down, so its really just there for bragging rights.

I believe there is a simple crate version available and a bit smaller one in the works. 8 to 9k and its yours out the door. I'm kind of surprise Ford may be moving away from the modular after 26 yrs, but it is big & heavy and expensive to build so they say. They had a problem with the valve guides on the first 7.3. A lot of trucks were just sitting on dealer lots till a fix was made.

I wouldn't view this as an indication Ford is moving away from the modular in anything other than select trucks. They are trying to gain the upper hand against GM and Dodge in the gas engine war. Its not going to happen with an undersized cammer. The Diesels are just too expensive and have higher maintenance & fueling costs, and the need to buy DEF. The emissions regulations on the Diesels have basically stymied them at this point. They can't get the power out of them anymore (why they keep getting bigger), and modifying them like everyone did to the earlier generations has become almost impossible.

Chok'em up with stuff it don't need......load'em down with emission junk...fix'em so the owner can't modify OR maintain them......artificially increase the fuel costs so most people won't buy one.........yeah that oughta kill'em!

I'm all for cleaner emissions, but when you put emissions devices on a vehicle that cut the fuel mileage in half, and without those devices it only pollutes 20% more that just makes no sense. At some point you have to consider the intersection of MPG and emissions. Acquiring oil and refining it creates pollution as well, as does transporting it. The way we look at emissions as it pertains to vehicles in this country is simply stupid. I love thanking people that drive electric cars for killing our planet and getting a blank stare, or they think I'm joking. Oh, its a joke, just not a funny one. No one considers the way power is produced, or the tons of ore that must be mined to produce the lithium, nickel, etc. in the battery packs.
