HIT IT !!!
Just like on tv. Hit the key. It starts. Test drive immediately underway.

Waiting is worse than starting it up. Follow MS instructions and post some videos.

Very nice bro.
I can come up there and lend you some moral support if you want. My only advice is make sure you have your Hagerty insurance with unlimited towing before you hit the road the first time. It came in handy my second trip after I got it running when I learned the hard way how to properly wire a 3G alternator.

heeheehee... Today is hopefully the day y'all! its fueled up with 5 gallons of fresh gas. The oil pump was primed a week or so ago. Battery is on top off charger. all accessories are working , no smoke from electrical systems. thankfully no new accessories since last time, all acessories are the same (well except the power steering pump now is saginaw style instead of Ford OE style) .. '
Fire extinguisher --Check
Water Hose --- Check
will be rolled out the garage , atleast past the firewall so its not so tilted firing up on the driveway -- check
Friends with camera -- check
New timing light --- check
Wrench in hand for what I dont know but sure.. --- check (PMGR starter , so not much the starter solenoid will be doing)
WIll be in PARK -- Check
Ok .. i seem to have things here. Today after work , we will know if this thing fires up! :D

Emergency Brake set??

fill carb bowls with gas (No need to grind-grind-grind with the starter waiting for fuel pump to fill it!!!
(don't axe me how I know this!)
Loosen hold down bolt on distributor so it can be turned by hand to aid in cranking
Have timing light hooked up
A can of starting fluid handy to aid in starting (Brakleen...I love this stuff....works great for this too!)
(Hope you got open headers!!)......If so...wear loose fitting pants..they are more comfortable(IF you know what I mean!?!
Give friend a video camera........

It wanted to fire up. But 3 tries and 2 fuel leaks ...
one leak was major close to the mechanical pump. Filter was broken or loose . I went to orielly , got a new filter . Replaced the rubber hoses there with the filter while getting serenaded by a gallon of gas that I lost through there .
Then second try , it actually gave me a good couple of hits , but then I checked , and the line connecting the front and back of the Holley was leaking at the split . I tried to reseat and try again, but that leak didn’t go away.
I could have just kept pushing it, and I am pretty sure it would have fired up , but it was 10pm by this time and auto stores were closed for me to get a new metal line. So I just called it .
We will try again another day.

Here is the video
Yes I’m in the garage. It was late , I couldn’t put it half out of I couldn’t open the door to get in and out. And I had buddies there ready.
Would have had to do it on the street . I wouldn’t have caught these leaks .

Great. Start it in the garage which is surrounded by your family in their bedrooms.
Oh, that pesky little fuel leak? No problem. It will evaporate quickly once the flames hit it.
What if the fuel had sprayed onto the garage floor and caught fire?
Jeez...

Maybe Gaba is smarter than we thought, BEING VERY AFRAID TO FIRE UP THE NEW ENGINE.
My first instruction was PUSH IT OUTSIDE and I know I have repeated that same thought over and over.

NO i am not smarter! God have mercy! the only time i had to do it was at night .. and i coudnt do it on the dark street at night.. and its COLD oK!! i knew i would catch a lot of flack for this! :D :D either from the car or peeps here... or both! :D how bout just call it young and stupid OK!

Roll it out side and ...idle it up to about 1000 RPM...warm the engine....have the TIMING LIGHT HOOKED UP.... A quick check of timing will cure the back fires.
Sounds pretty durn sweeeet to 6Sal6 though!!!!!!

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
