80% of PAINT is PAIN
Probably one more day to get it ready.
I have to pull the dash apart to remove the booster and master cylinder. That corner is really full of alot of stuff and I don’t plan on removing all of it. Pedal assembly has to come out so I can design the new cable clutch system.
I need to buy an AC system and can’t decide which to get. The Vintage Air in my 66 works great, but I think it could make colder air. What are other 69-70 owners using? Pros? Cons?

Looking good MS.

Looks AWESOME

My Gen IV blows at 38 - 40 degrees which is pretty much a standard target from what I read a few years ago. If it's a tad overcharged it will not get as cold as it should. You might want to talk to Vintage about it. With the 69 I would want a stockish system in the dash but with the potentiometer controls.

If you do the satin black use epoxy black primer instead of grey or red. That way scratches will be less obvious.
What type of primer, paint are you using, spray gun or rattle can? Hundreds of opinions out there on brands and equipment.
My engine bay before and after. I still wish i would have used bdy colour.
This all started out just to replace the rear left apron, i got a bit carried away.

The 69 and 68 engine bay are very similar but the interiors are world apart. My ac vents aren’t like yours but I’ll bet the under dash heater/ac box is very similar.
My CAA is a cable operated unit, no electric option was available at the time. The electric one would be the better and easier one to install . I think the VIntage is electric.
Fun times eh!

Fun project eh Steve? I'm at the same point, figured with the motor out why not. Picked up the heads yesterday, lapped and installed the valves.

I use VHT Roll Bar satin black epoxy. It sprays really smooth and covers well. Easy to touch up, even years later.
I never use primer in engine compartments. Ford didn’t. Primer just adds another step and more expense, and complicates touchup work later on.
The VHT states no primer needed. I used it on my 66 20 years ago.

I like my original AC because it can blend in the outside air. No aftermarket kit that I looked into had option. I took the original out and repaired it with fiberglass, and then covered the outside of it with the sticky foam insulation and aluminum that you wrap around the AC ducting that is in the attic. The system doesnt sweat anymore. Works pretty good dispite that I didnt put the correct amount of freon it

I have been looking for an original. They just don’t exist, or their owners think they are solid gold. My new compressor is on the passenger side, so I will have to do something custom with the condenser and dryer.

Steve-
That looks pretty good. What did you clean/scrub that with?
Rudi-
Excellent job, that came out really nice.

Not a terribel price, little corroded though.
Where you gonna find R12 though to use in that compressor?

Alan, that is just an aftermarket underdash unit. If you put one in a 69, the passenger gets really good AC but zero leg room driver gets nothing but a passenger complaining of no leg room.
But thanks for helping find options.

I used a worn out cup brush on my dewalt grinder to remove loose stuff. Wiped grease off with lacquer thinner. I will follow up with 180 grit sandpaper and then scrub it with Comet cleanser.

Doesn’t outside air blending go against what the A/C is for?
Why would you want to introduce hot humid outside air into the vehicle?
The original dash A/C outlets are way nicer than the chintzy ones offered in the aftermarket systems.
A west coast Cougar place had nice used ones but out of my price range, like Steve said,”must be made of gold”

Ya, I've had some serious sticker shock piecing together the stock underdash ac parts. I've bought 2 complete running 65s for less.

I do agree the aftermarket center vents for 69-70 are really ugly. Unfortunately, my car has a near-new non-AC dash pad in it. Retrofitting the much nicer original center vents would require a new pad designed for AC.
Hopefully I can apply the old MustangSteve touch and come up with something better than what Vintage Air offers.

I've had this issue more than once driving on croscountry trips especially changing altitudes.
