I posted on vmf but have only gotten a couple replies. For the price of a factory under-dash replacement harness I can buy the Scott Drake premium harness. I do plan on upgrading my headlights and I will be adding AC. The SD harness has relays and options to add accessories and better fuses. I can not see any reason not to buy the SD harness. I can not find much information on it. I only recall someone replying a long time ago to another post, which I can’t recall. But they had suggested the SD harness.
Only thing one poster objected to was that the relays are under the dash on the SD harness.

For $566.00 on Holley.com seams likes a good deal for the money. If you wanted to upgrade the fuse box you could add in a fuse box from waytek.com they have a bussman 4 pole 24 position fuse block, for around $45.00 I dont mind the relays being underdash atleast they are hidden and not an eye sore under the hood of a classic.

That was my thinking on the relays. Plus how often does o e really need to change relays? I do t think I e ever had a bad relay in all the years I worked on cars.

The only other spot that I have thought of for to mount relays and have them some what hidden after mods would be in the dead space behind the grille. But I wouldnt want to see the relays through the grille opening.
I would add one of those aftermarket radiator support to grille opening covers. I beleive the one I like was the plastic option thats out there they also make interior parts overhead console for coupes. I would like to figure out how to change a 65 cowl to be more like a 1969-70 cowl. Or how to fit a 2015+ heater box and ac to a 65-66 dunno how the wiring would be.

How would you run the power lead to power the fuse block and relays? Ive been debating what way would look the cleanest for my number #6 gauge black/with yellow stripe wire. Been debating adding a third firewall connector that looks like the other main two. But it would be customized. I would use the heater fan loop wiring kit thats sold. This gives me my ends for ine interior and engine bay side. I would then cut off the wiring off both connectors. Then I was thinking of using some panel bond adhesive to mate the two wiring connector halfs. Then I would drill a hole through the wiring connector. This way I would have a clean looking way for my #6 gauge wire to enter the inside of the car.

I remember posting a while back about the AAW wiring harness. Possible this is what you are remembering. Overall a pretty good product, one of my dislikes was the headlight relays were to mount under the dash. I feel this defeats the purpose of using relays and making the wire distance from battery to headlights short as possible. This saves on voltage drop to the headlights. It does still help save the headlight switch. I'm not sure where Scott Drake would mount their relays.

For me it wasn’t the AAW harness. It was specific to the SD harness. I did reach out to a buddy that has resided many cars and asked if I should buy a plug and play harnesses or go with the AAW kit. He suggested the plug and play option. That was his input if he was to rewire one. Given my electrical knowledge isn’t even close to his I leaned toward a plug and play.
For me I am not set on where exactly the relays will end up. I use to know the formula by heart and I’m sure I could figure out the exact voltage drop and then I would need to know what would be consider to much of a voltage drop.
I like the idea of a cleaner look and the relays not being exposed to the outside. I have time to work on this. Still haven’t finished bodywork but I have been piling up my parts list and buying parts because I will need them soon. I did order the harness last night and some Hella head lights from Summit. Both items were in stock.

For your consideration – I mounted the two headlights’ relays in the engine compartment under the voltage regulator mounting location, and the horn relay in the upper cowl support channel on the battery side of the radiator. Unless one is really looking, these locations are difficult to see (especially the horn relay). Just saying.

I like clean and uncluttered as much as anyone but accessible and practical are high priorities for me. Are you doing a concourse restoration? If so why are you changing the wiring harness from stock to begin with? Once it's modified...it's modified. JMO
