I ran across this yesterday and thought I would share.
I like the custom Eaton spring option for this build.

Narrowed a 9" for the 67 using a truck center section and tubes from the old 8" and then added 11" drum brakes off 75 Lincoln. Lots of stopping power, sometimes to much...

Give us a little 'mo info' Rich....... Did you grind out the welds on the truck section and slip in the 8" tubes?
No shortening of the tubes?

When I lived in Ohio there was a retired guy that built 9 inch third members and housings. He would use the banjo style 9 inch housing and skip the 8 inch axle tubes inside the 9 inch banjo tubes near the center section. He had done this for me on my old 65 fastback I built. Looks pretty much identical to a hipo 65/66 housing. The banjo style has a lot more clearance for exhaust clearance if you’re going up and over the axle.
I must have sold him 100 plus 9 inch axles and parts. The junkyard I would visit every weekend would put every 9 inch axle aside for me. The guy that worked there went by the name of Red.

I cut off the bigger tubes flush at the center section ends and the 8" tubes could be pressed inside. Using an I beam as a jig to measure off of, I could rotate everything to be sure it was straight before welding and after. Yes I did shorten the 8's some. I only needed 1" off each side to keep the tires from rubbing.
I use the same jig setup and made a few driveshafts. It now just collects dust under the work bench. No more cars for me
