Hello,
every time I had to adjust the advance I took the wrong reference because the pointer was missing. So I put piston 1 at top dead center and built my pointer (which was missing) starting from the photo of what the original should look like. This is the result.
I used a 20 mm x 2 thk aluminum plate, bended and drilled.

Great idea.
I like it.
Do you have a copy of the Mona Lisa too? 😁

Thank you guys.
Unfortunately no, I don't have a copy of the Mona Lisa.
I like to do myself what it is possible.

Gaba has a very good write up about setting up your distributor too.
Here’s a link that helps explain distributor timing for performance engines too.

I installed a rebuilt engine in 1977 F100. When I installed an after market balancer at TDC it didn't line up with the pointer. I have two balancers that slipped like this. I could probably put a timing mark tape on it after establishing TDC. What I didn't do is put a correction ink mark on the face (front) of the balancer across the two rings and rubber grommet. This way if I ended up with timing issues I could check to see if the outter ring had moved or slipped. Also the balancer was a swap meet item. later

Great job and it looks factory. Pretty sure I will have to do the same for my engine when I get to that point.

Yep.....kinda what I did! Established TDC (with a piston stop)...attached a timing tape....."made" a fancy-smancy pointer and mounted it so it would be EZ to see when setting my timing.
Kind-uva timing pointer the way FoMoCo SHOULDA-DONE it!
