Happy 4th.
Be careful out there.
Looks like we are going to get a bit of water in our lake for once.

Not sure if good or bad, but it has the 90 degree fitting that I like.

Also- why is the engine out ? Cause — i had to fix wiring and AC and exhaust leaks and such that taking the engine out was an easier thing than to have to work around it ;)
Now it’s spacious to work around and rewire and drill holes etc
How do you fix exhaust leaks with engine out???
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » i am back again - this time with more projects! :) » 6/29/2025 7:52 AM |
Be sure your new clutch pedal is in place before attempting to put the AC hose for the driver side in place. That hose will get flattened somewhat where it must go ABOVE the pedal support. It will still move plenty of air.

New water pump and pulleys and belt will be here Monday. It is very strange. The pump does not leak when running or first parked. After it cools down, it will drip a small puddle, coming from weep hole. Buyer is aware of the issue. I told him I would put the new stuff on. Unless he tries to get it cheaper.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » falcon vs mustang, and gtp40 spark plug » 6/28/2025 5:58 AM |
Those Falcons came with 289, which is identical dimensionally to your 5.0. Are you concerned the engine won’t fit in the car?
Pretty sure Bullet Bob helped put one in a Falcon for a friend a few years ago.
The fact your block has the xxx cast into it tells you it is a roller 5.0 from mid 80’s or newer.
The codes you need are above the starter. There will be an engineering number containing 6015 and a date code cast in raised letters newr where the bellhousing bolts on.

This same setup comes on all the Blueprint brand engines that the customer wants AC and power steering. I spoke for a really long time with a CVF engineer and he assured me they do not all have failures such as mine.
They are working with me to get it right.
So far, they have replaced these items:
Two water pumps
Two power steering pumps (real cause of leakage is a crappy vent design on the cap… you’d think they would figure that out)
Alternator
Alternator pulley
Crank pulley
(3) idler pulleys
Fan belt
Most likely, I will see this to completion. I just need to devote AT LEAST ANOTHER DAY OF MY LIFE to make that happen.
This hobby is wearing me down with all the senseless post-installation parts replacement required in order to get something successfully working.
The guys that put them back as original may just be on to something.

Sorry, I didn't think about rims not fitting, that never entered my mind. I was just wondering why everyone would sit around for hours when someone could just loan him a spare to move on. But, a spare is a must have item on a long cruise.
Your last sentence says it all. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.
Yes, I could have driven an hour to the failure location, loaned my spare, and then driven an hour back to the show, arrived late and then not find any place to park.
Had it been a breakdown or part failure, or something not totally the fault of the owner, I would certainly have been the first in line to go do that.
My philosophy on bash trips:
Nobody gets left behind. We will do whatever it takes to help Mustangers out. However, it is the duty of every Mustanger to do everything they can (due diligence) to make sure their car is reasonably capable of making the trip. When they don’t do that, it can ruin everyone’s trip. No spare tire that holds air and fits the car is a good example. Wires routed where they get burned going down the road, or loose/missing bolts, or carb return springs attached to temperature sender wires are other recent examples. If you are joining on a road trip, you owe it to everyone on the trip to make sure you did your due diligence to make it to the destination.
That said, had there not been an alternate solution, yes, we would have come to the rescue. Nobody gets left behind.

It just needs to work, not be a prom queen. To install a foxbody system, which I have on the shelf, would require totally reworking the AC system since the CVF system mounts the compressor on the passenger side.
I am not willing to do that.
I have had two offers on the car, both too low, and two more people coming to look at it. Both seem like more serious buyers. If it hasn’t sold when the new parts get here, I will likely put the new stuff on it. I do not want to sell something problematic to someone. I have disclosed to all potential buyers that it is leaking and a new pump will be provided.
It is about an eight hour job to swap out the pump and pulleys.
Swap Meet » complete 8" rear differential » 6/24/2025 2:07 PM |
Those Maverick rear ends, if it is actually an 8” version, typically sell for $400 to $500 because they bolt right in on six cylinder Mustangs and in 49-50 Fords.

One more development
I spoke with CVF today.
They have a redesign on this system and they are sending a new water pump, shorter belt, smaller alternator pulley and smaller crankshaft pulley. They said it will slow down the water pump speed.
The existing pump is leaking until it gets warmed up.
The next question is whether the new owner installs it or if do it again myself

This sounds to me like a really good idea.
The CVF system seems to be working perfectly after removal of the mechanical fan and installation of a new Gates belt. The water pump drips a bit when not running. The temperature gauge sits on 195, same as thermostat, once the engine warms up. It runs that temperature whether idling with AC on during a hot day or driving down the highway on a cool morning. I will be happy to supply a brand new water pump so the new owner can install it and enjoy working on their new car.
The car is listed for sale on FB Marketplace. Every mechanical part on the car and the interior have less than 5,000 miles on them. Any offer for the car will be considered when the buyer is standing in my driveway with cash in hand. Offers not presented with those two conditions met will be ignored.

10:00pm update, same day new belt installed. After the car cooled off, the pump started leaking on the floor through the weep hole. A leak about the size of a half dollar coin has appeared six hours after driving the car. It is interesting that it does not leak when at operating temperature, once it cools, it starts to drip
I have no choice now but to just sell the car. I just cannot spend any more time on this issue.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Fourth water pump in my 69 » 6/23/2025 2:42 PM |
This is what I used to operate the tensioner on the Wraptor system. There is no room to get a 1/2” breaker bar into the intended 1/2” square hole with the Contour fans in there.
This is a wrench for a counterrotating Ford water pump with a fan clutch.
Part # K-D 3136.
It fits around the entire tensioner rather than just fitting into the square 1/2” hole

Today’s report:
I installed a new belt. The screeching noise went totally away. After watching it idle for a while, the water pump was dripping a little from the weep hole.
I took the car for a fifteen mile drive. Still no noise. Water pump has not dripped any at all since I returned home. Never heard of a leaking pump healing itself. I really do not want to go through the intensive effort required to replace the pump again.
I can not believe the amount of screeching, metal-on-metal noise that belt was producing.
The new belt, same brand and part number as the previous one, is a little thinner than the old one.
Fingers are crossed.
What do you buys think this car would be worth if I put it up for sale?

Yeah, most guys just settle for one of those ugly-assed, oversized, has no business on the car, cheap, chinese GM distributors when they want to jack up their small block Ford.
Whenever I see one of those on a Mustang, I just turn and walk away, because I know there is no hope having any meaningful discussion with the owner.

Update after installing three new idlers and bearings.
No change. Still screeching noise that goes away with a splash of WD40 on the belt.
New belt ordered that will be here tomorrow. Water dripping but not coming from weep holes. Looks like passenger side between pump and timing cover on lower edge of pump.
If the new belt doesn’t magically make it run quiet, it is pump #5 time. Or, you can but the car cheap. I am about done.
It takes about eight hours to change a water pump on this thing. Looks pretty, but DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER USING ONE OF THESE THINGS.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Fourth water pump in my 69 » 6/22/2025 7:47 PM |
Fan turns on at 195, then off at 185. It does cycle. The gauge reads steady 195 no matter if AC is on or stuck in traffic idling with AC or going down the highway at speed. I am impressed with that.

When you have a car with bigger than stock brakes, you need a spare that fits over the big brakes.
I loaned him mine, once he got a tow into town.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
