FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Has anyone installed later model shock towers in a 65 mustang? » 12/04/2024 10:03 PM

Does the later 67 lower control arm mount style work better then the 65-66? I've heard that the 67-68 are a little less prone to bump steer because of later style control arm mount. What are your opinions?

If you install 68 towers in a 65-66, you still can use 65-66 upper control arms, but you have to swap out the pivot shafts to the 67-68 version. Hole spacing is wider.

Awesome great info thank you. I was told the later control arms are longer. But I belive you that they are the same as side from the pivot shaft. I realize there definitely were slight changes to the lower control arms over the years.

I thought this swap sounds pretty nice since I'd gain space and also get upper control arms that mount flat to the shock towers vs 65-66 that use shims. There's not alot of shops out there that know how to align a new car let alone our first gen mustangs.  Pretty sad my 2015 Mustang didn't even get aligned right.

I dont know if it's a thing from the world down under or not. I found out from a Australian fellow that him and few people have installed later model shock towers and later model 1" pitman arm along with later centerlink, and controll arms as well  on his 1966 mustang coupe. You gain little over 2" doing so and then the towers can be notched if wanted to gain more clearance. He said  it's so easy changing spark plugs on his 289. And if I wanted to a big block will fit after the shock towers steering suspension mod.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » New style tail lights for 65-66 mustang » 11/23/2024 6:33 PM

I've posted before a picture of the taillights from this kit and I thought it was more like a panel overlay. I never saw the other weld in parts. The kit includes new peices to install new tail lights and the lenses of your choice. My problem is I'd still want chrome trim. The post I originally shared was of the white car with the black tailight panel and I didn't like it because of no gas cap and no taillight trim. The second picture from someone on facbook makes the new taillights look better being able to use the stock gas cap I think. But I still would prefer to have trim around the taillights.

I do not like the clear lenses installed on the last car. But the taillight shape looks nice I think. What are your opinions?

After measuring my 2015 mustang entertainment center whatever it is console thing. I'm not sure why after reading about the person who built that custom center for the 65 didn't try and modify the 2015 center to fit it looks like it would be significantly narrower then how his turned out.

I saw in Google a post that said digital dashes aren't showing their full potential so maybe will be seeing cool modern advancements in digital dashes.  The other thing I found dunno who has it or has seen it on the market. But holley has a 6.86" and a 12" same as Ford size digital gauge cluster that's sniper efi compatible and has other Guage read outs. They seem to have a few nice all ready pre loaded gauge designs on the cluster but they state other designs are available to download so I thought that was neat.

I really would like to add a 2 din digital stereo head unit or larger head unit In my 1965 mustang.  I saw from YouTube videos a 2005-09 mustang dash fits in a 65-66 mustang so that type console and head head unit could maybe be utilized. I really like the looks of this digital head unit for my 2015 mustang that I saw. I thought it would be neat to install it into my new car but wouldn't it be sorts neat to have a 2015 mustang head unit in a 1965 mustang ? With using a holley digital gauge pod it frees up dash space so that the bigger 2015 mustang head unit could be installed into a 1965 mustang.

I want to retro fit a newer modern heater into the 1965 mustang so maybe a 2015 heater box would fit. I think Its neat that the 2005-09 dash fits in a 1965-1966 mustang that means that style heater box would fit in a 1965-1966 mustang.  Would be neat to use the 2015 heater box though in the 1965 mustang. That way it would would nicely with the head unit. Can anyone hear help me find pictures of the 2015 mustang heater duct routing and maybe how the heater box it mounted and what it connects to please and thank you.

Where’s the old stuff you cut out?  Use some of the old tunnel section and patch it up.   Almost looks like you cut the floor tunnel to short.

The floor is cut to length the tunnel is short from cutting off the spot welded on end. I removed the section to tunnel to get the new panel to go under the floor. Adding on the old peice of tunnel that I kept I can maybe use a section of it and make it work. I just am not liking the fact it seems like the pan is offset to the passenger side. And it definitely seems like that when I placed the old peice of tunnel on.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Wiring on the exterior light feed plug » 9/03/2024 3:20 PM

That's what I thought I just wanted to make sure before I make any changes that I'll regret from not being 100% positive.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Wiring on the exterior light feed plug » 9/02/2024 3:33 AM

On the wiring coming from the exterior light feed plug do I have to wire the power feed black with yellow stripe to the starter fender solenoid or could I simply wire it to a power feed that's from the battery? I'm sure It would be fine to go to the battery that 37 feed just goes to the battery side of the solenoid and then also splits off to the Headlight switch and also ignition switch. So I don't see a problem with doing this. I just haven't finished wiring my a few connections on my harness firewall plug and also on the exterior light feed harness.

I found some 10-12 gauge bullet terminals I was thinking I could customize the firewall harness and exterior wiring harness and I could add in a new 10 gauge power feed wire. I have a exteriorlight feed harness plug pigtail. I could build you a custom harness out of that with a 10 gauge wire to power the fan controller. Then if you were to ship me your under dash harness I could rewire the exterior light feed plug to have a 10 gauge wire as well.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » New transition pan fits but with a big flaw you be the judge » 9/01/2024 7:34 PM

The new transition pan fits over all very well I have it centered on the spot welds I had to drill out to remove the shock brace. I have the shock crossmember centered and temp mounted in place. The transition panel fits over the rails nice next to no hammer dolly work except one small potion of rail flange that I bent on accident when I was bringing the rails together to mount the shock crossmember.  I have the transition panel centered on the shock crossmember plug weld marks that I drilled out and the panel is screwed in place currently.  The new transition panels end to the transmission tunnel is off quite a bit.

My new transition pan it is overall pretty close to that of an original except one fairly maybe large set back ill let you be the judge. Any advice is appreciated. The the trans tunnel hump sits way to high in comparison to the original and also wider and maybe slightly offset.

I have one of those. Not right for a 69, which has a tapered lug glued to the glass. Nobody sells them new that I can find. I got a used mirror off ebay that has a lug sort of like the original. It is too wide to fit correctly but I got it to work.

Gotcha so the replacement type is the ball stud mount. Like I posted.

Maybe try contacting https://3dprintedfordparts.com/
It seems like the owner really cares about getting the correct fitment.

Some time not to bad I used wire wheels scrapers a 7" resin fiber sanding disc along with other sizes to strip the paint off. It went relatively quick may 30 minutes max to bare steel. Biggest amount of time has been in sanding welds. I'm maybe into the floor 1.5 hrs total.
