Seems like there was 2 green/yellow wires going to one connector pin that connects to connector on back of gauge cluster-so i pulled the other one out twisted them together and put them both back to pin connector, everything is fine now. Thanx for your input, much appreciated!

I took the dash out, there was a green/yellow wire that was pulled out from somewhere, don’t know where it came from but it was near the connector that went to the back of the instrument cluster, but it seems that all of the wires are accounted for, can i splice this to the green/yellow in the connector?

No, they don’t work via the switch either, Headlights work, gauge lights work. I guess ill put in a new switch and see what happens, will check that green/yellow wire also. Thanx for yiu input, keep ya posted.

Hello all,
68 mustang 289 c-4.
When opening the driver side door, interior lights don’t turn on. Open the pass side door, lights come on. Could this be a bad headlight switch? The door pin switches are good. Thanx

Never tried it with lights on, will try. What would that tell me?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Sometimes no start » 1/25/2020 12:28 PM |
Ive had the car since 1974, never a problem, its a four speed car, and it happens when the car is stone cold but eventually It will start. Will try key tap method.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Sometimes no start » 1/25/2020 10:46 AM |
When the key is turned to start the car, sometimes NOTHING happens. Turn the key back and try again, sometimes a slight hesitation then it starts, sometimes immediate start like it should normally. I checked all connections to starter, Solenoid etc. Cleaned and reconnected. Taking a trip to Connecticut to Mustang Unlimited and exhaust place, Don't want to get stuck!

Hello everyone!
67 390gt fastback
When starting sometimes absolutely nothing happens, or there will be a slight hesitation then start , turn the key a few more times and eventually it will fire off. It has new starter, solenoid, ignition switch, and key tumbler. It also has a ignitor 2 module if that matters. Seems to happen more in the summer when very hot. What else should i be looking for?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Ignition hesitation then start » 8/22/2019 6:24 PM |
67 390 gt
New starter, new ignition switch, new solenoid, when key is turned to start, there is a hesitation, no noise, nothing. Then it will turn over and start.
What might cause this?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Temp gague reading » 8/22/2019 6:20 PM |
180 thermostat. So taking the coolant temp will give you the engine temp, and the infra red should be very close, guess ill take the upper and lower hose temps also.
K, thanx-will do tomorrow.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Temp gague reading » 8/22/2019 3:27 PM |
Hello all, 67 mustang 390 gt.
Was wondering what temp would the motor be at if the gauge was reading in the middle. On a hot day like today mine is reading way low, I put a infer red thermometer on different parts of the motor, hottest spots only read about 150 deg. Give or take a few. Edelbrock Aluminum heads and intake, 4 core 23 in radiator, 7 blade 18.25 fan and shroud . What temp would the gauge be reading at dead center?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 67 fastback trunk light power source » 8/08/2019 1:18 PM |
No dome light, upper and lower consoles.
Anything on the back of the ignition switch or cigarette lighter?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 67 fastback trunk light power source » 8/08/2019 11:13 AM |
Hello everyone,
My trunk light just stopped working so im tracing the wire to see why. Was wondering what the most convenient location would be to pull power for a trunk light. I know there are a few locations. I know it has to be full hot to work. Its a 67 fastback 390 gt. I ran it down the driver side rocker channel to behind the kick panel, and up behind the dash somewhere-was trying to avoid taking the gauge cluster out, it got hot out so i took a break. Where are some good locations?
Thanx
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Wobbly exterior door buttons » 8/05/2019 10:22 AM |
No Sally, 2 mustangs equal 4 doors, 3 out of the 4 wobble like crazy.
And Steve, it says just the buttons are wobbly. Whats the fix?
Stay cool everybody, hot as hell on long island ny!
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Wobbly exterior door buttons » 8/03/2019 7:07 PM |
67, 68 mustangs, both have very wobbly exterior handle buttons. Any idea on why or how to firm them up? Driver side 67 is fine, the other three are very loose.
Thanx
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 67 steering wheel center » 6/27/2019 10:46 AM |
Good afternoon all! I was wondering if a 65-66 steering wheel center will fit the 67 stock wheel. I was trying to replace the chunky crash pad with the smaller chrome center. Are the backs the same, will it twist in like original? Ive seen some pictures but was wondering if anyone knows.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Heater speeds and residtor » 6/15/2019 6:57 PM |
Well-finally found the problem, after making sure everything is installed properly, found that the left heater hose was shot and barely attached to the blender. It had small holes all through it that you couldn’t see unless you put a light source behind it. Got a new hose set, should be fine will find out tomorrow. After checking out all of the suggestions, should be tight!
One more thing, it seems that the 68 resistor is different from the 67, my 68 was built in late 67, so it has the same switch as 67. Does anybody know of the 68 switches being unavailable? And what they look like?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Heater speeds and residtor » 6/09/2019 12:43 AM |
Ok, will check un the am-thanx for everything Still dont know what T/S means. Is it important? Would it help to maybe clean the 3 position heater switch itself? It la the original switch. If so, what to use to clean it? Trying to cover all bases.

Hello everyone, hope all is well. 67 mustang 390 gt fastback non a/c.
My blower has no force behind it, all 3 speeds are very week. What could cause this? Years ago it would blow paper away from the defroster vent. Is there a difference between the 67-68 resistor switches?
I just put in a new radiator, shroud etc and decided to finally tackle this issue. Could it be the on off switch itself that needs checking? I do remember way back jiggling the switch and everything speeding up but it has been changed since then. Where do i start?
Thanx

Thanks Senior 24-7, thats exactly what is happening. Well since its going to be out of the car anyway, will keep you posted.will check it for sure. And im sure the brand new clutch just enhances the problem.
Ps: im a senior too, 65 this april, had the car since 1974- its in the blood now. Thanx again!

Hello all, robby13 here. 67 fastback 390 gt
What would cause the tranny not to stay in 4th gear? Just had a centerforce series 1 installed and it feels real good. I had the tranny done this past summer-illegedly. It shifts into gear ok but not great, but in fourth gear when slowing down it jumps out and cant go back in. Then i was under the car yesterday and found the shifter, a hurst competition plus, was just flat worn out! It just wobbles all over the place, i think installed it the late 70s. Would this help with it not going in and staying in gear? I ordered a new shifter and install kit. Hopefully ots inside the box.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Monte Carlo bar » 1/14/2019 2:01 AM |
After installing a one piece export brace, the monte carlo bar isnt really needed unless your doing some serious racing but they do look kool! . I have a 67 390 car, and a 68 289 with ac. Had them for over 45 yrs now. In the big block car the bar interferes with valve cover removal, and in the 289 the straight bar is right over the distributor, i know they have a curved bar butvthe straight bar looks better to me. There have been many tests and comparisons over the years, if your just driving normal driving, the one piece export brace is all you realky need.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Batteries? » 1/14/2019 1:45 AM |
I personally save the little red and black caps that come on the battery posts when new and put them back on when doing work. Year ago i managed to contact both posts with a 1/2 inc wrench-nuff said! I have a draw full of red and black post covers!
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Deluxe instrument bezel 67 » 1/14/2019 1:36 AM |
I also have a 67 fastback S code with deluxe interior, have had it since 1974. I like the Scott Drake stuff, have used NPD and Mustang unlimited forever. If you want everything to match, buy all three pieces together. Not terribly expensive.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
