FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Had my AC wired to a constant hot power source. » Today 10:27 AM |
Well I never paid attention to the upgraded harness fuse block. I just assumed it was all ignition powered. Turns out only the red blocks are fused which is clear as day on the electrical drawing. I just never caught it. I first notice my blower motor would stay on. So I just turned the AC switch on the dash to off. Then I noticed my fan was staying on. Then it hit me. The constant power had left the system powered with the key off and the pressure switch was sending power to the fan controller. I just moved the power wires to the red blocks and all it well. The one picture shows the two red AC wires in the correct location now.

In 1964 I bought a 1935 Pontiac with 52K original miles from the original owner. I had heard about the car from someone and kicked around driving into the bowels of Los Angeles to check it out. Finally I decided to follow it up and a friend and I went.
I bought the car for $40 and got a set of "56 Calif. license plates still in the envelope with the paper between the two plates and a box of spare parts that the owner had bought at the start of WWII because she knew parts would be hard to get....just in case. Drove that car for about two years. Great car. Still wish I had kept it.
You just never know.
That's a cool story.

Well that's a shame, but at times like this I'm reminded that the real enjoyment comes from the hunt and often the purchase is actually disappointing. Things tend to work out as they should. Glad you didn't make a special trip for it.
That's exactly what I said when buddy tried to say sorry. I said there's great excitement in the chase. He did his buddy, owner of the engine is probably more disappointed than because he was told it was a boss engine. Plus if you don't follow a lead, then you will miss out.

Sadly, it is not a boss 351C. I could not identify the block number but the balancer is to small. I was able to remove a valve cover and they are not boss heads. They are 4V heads but no idea if they are open or closed. At this point it wasn't even worth making and offer and then pay to ship it home. Had I driven up instead of flying, I would have taken it for $200 or less.

That was the first and second mustang I owned. Both V8 cars and the second one was a Cobra II. It was the first car I ever restored. It got a built 289 with a solid lifter big cam and redid the body and paint. I installed a 9" rear and a T5 trans. I never lost a street race in that car. It was super fast. Shifted at 7,000. At 7200 the T5 had trouble shifting. At one point I ran an 850 DP carb on it. I actually smoked a big block Chevelle from a stop light with that set up. I could miss second gear and still out run anyone I raced. Never had traction at the drag strip and could only run 14 flat but would do so at 114-116 mph. I still wish to build another one and for a long time I tried to track my old one down. I was always told it was sitting in some barn.
That 289 was the first engine I ever built and did all the port work on the heads myself. Way before the old internet days. That car was a blast to drive. I'll have to see if I have pictures of it somewhere.

Yes Ring Brothers handles. I also have their shifter handle.

He once posted that there ARE indeed different PVCs for SBF engines. One size doesn't fit all(well...it will butt it shouldn't)
A PCV valve for a stocker 2-barrel 289 has a much different vacuum signature than a Boss 302 (for instance) ! Yet the PCV will interchange with both.
I think a PCV for a boss 302 or HiPo 289 would be a better fit for a cammed-up/high(er) performance engine than just the first one Oh-Oh-Oh Rielly hands ya !
The kicker is.............Rich did the research and listed the PCV (part #) for the Hi-Po 289 . Therefore...I forgot it !!
Prolly a little research of numbers would indicate the best PCV for your engine vs the high zoot Wagner nobodys tried...

MS I have the same issue with the tensioner where I can't get to it with the electric fans installed. I even had to remove the billet cover from the tensioner because it's so tight. I found I could put a 6" pipe wrench from underneath and grab the end of the tensioner and move it with ease to get the belt on and off.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Made a line to pressure my AC using a bicycle pump » 6/14/2025 5:46 PM |
Since I've been unable to pin point why the AC won't hold vacuum I decided to pressurize the system. I took the end of a bicycle tube and a not fitting with a barb end and used a piece of fuel line. The barb fitting is the connection on the manifold and the tube end I connected my bicycle pump. I have a high pressure bicycle pump for my road bike. After I pressured the system I sprayed soapy water on every connection and even where the hoses were crimped. I could find any leaks in the system.
It worked great but I was loosing pressure on the high side. After some testing with pressure and vacuum by closing and opening the low and high side ports I think I've narrowed it down to the quick disconnect is my issue. The gauge set is over six years old and was from Harbor Freight. Tomorrow I'll pull vacuum again and charge the system and hope it's all good.

I am wondering if it might be a belt alignment issue. Any way to get a straight edge across the pullies?
Failing that I have one of these Gates laser alignment tools if you want to borrow it.
On my CVF setup it was pretty clear the belt alignment was off and it was the tensioner that needed to be shimmed by .100. I did remove about .060 from each idler to get it perfect. My tensioner doesn't have much travel to it and I too think a longer belt would be to loose. I like the idea MS has for a six rib belt but I'm not 100% it will decrease the load but it's the most logical next step.
CVF knows there is a failure is sure and can't figure it out or are refusing to address it. CVF told me I could not run a mechanical fan so they are clearly trying to pin the failure on mechanical fans.

I noticed no real difference when I installed the Wagner PCV valve. My vacuum was about 16-17 inches both prior to and after installing the Wagner. I had a Holley 600 CFM carb at that time, and did not have an oil consumption problem.
I'm not saying you'll have oil consumption, was just trying to remember what were some of the benefits. Maybe what I should have said was I don't know much about PCV setups and or how to pick the right one. This seemed to simplify things and insure it was working like it should. After all I went all out on everything else so why not this as well.
I should add I've never had an issue with anything I've ever built and just slapping in what ever PCV I had lying around. I like what I read about the Wagner and figured why not try it. At least I know it's setup the best way I could set it up, well according to Wagner I have. Lol

Not leaving a good feeling about my CVF setup.
If anyone recalls when I called CVF and asked about using a mechanical fan they told me it would void my warranty.
