I finally located a set of gauges I like, but they are 3 1/8 and the bezel i'm looking at is 3 3/8" unfortunately. Does anyone know if there is an adapter to make a 3 1/8" gauge fit into a 3 3/8" bezel? Seems like alot of bezels are plastic too. The one from Eddie Motorsports is billet aluminum but pricey. That one also is 3 3/8" opening.

Hello all,
I've read some articles here on gauge clusters and want to ask about the Dakota Digital. I'm looking for nice white faced gauges for my 65 and am leaning toward HDX series, but the description says "Silver" not white. I see that Autometer makes an Arctic white. I do like the look of the DD HDX, but just not sure about how "white" or "gray" they are in real life. Has anyone purchased these that can comment on the color? My interior is white and thought the white gauge cluster might be a good addition. I've looked at Hye-Po, Dakota Digital, Classic Instruments, and Autometer. I'd consider either the 5-hole cluster (with tach built into the speedo as on the HDX) or the separate tach with the 6-hole cluster.

This is great - thank you all very much.
Appreciate the help and insight! For Bearing Bob - yes, i am looking at a T5z upgrade kit from a 4-speed and the shop is asking questions to get right parts.

I did not take off the pulley, but seems that is my only way to know for sure? I was able to get a small scope through the starter motor hole to read the stamped numbers on flywheel, and seen this -
E1ZR-6380-A2A. That also does not seem to be definitive. I'll attach pics of crank pulley, but likely will not be helpful if i need to pull that off now to see the balancer behind it.

Wow i really appreciate the help here! I just got out of my garage and here is a little more data to go on-
With the starter motor removed, and cranking the engine by hand at the crank pulley, I got the following numbers (stamped not cast) off the flywheel as it made its way around - E6ZR-AA. I know there are also cast numbers but they are so hard to see. My preliminary research seems to show this as 50oz, but still not 100%.

50vert - i am sorry but don't know about a conversion balancer. Some of this is beyond my mechanical ability.

MS - yes, when i spin the flywheel manually, i can see the counterweight. Is there a number of teeth that it would span? I know the 50oz weights cover longer area than 28oz weights, correct?

BobE - I have 3 bolts holding on the harmonic balancer. How do i confirm the size of the weight on the balancer?

Not having much success with locating relevant numbers anywhere on the block. Not able to see any counterweight on the flywheel. The only numbers i can see are the ones in my picture i sent when i removed the starter motor. I have 3 bolts in the crank pulley, but don't think that is the best way to confirm a 28oz. I'm probably going to take a guess at 28oz and order the transmission kit based on that. If it turns out incorrect, then the shop will have to swap out whats needed. Thanks for the help here. Obviously this would be easier if the engine was out of the car.

wow - so private browser is what worked! Sheesh! Thanks so much for the tips. I was able to see that the casting is F1SE which is supposed to be a 1991 302 for a Thunderbird. Still have to find other casting numbers to confirm 28 or 50oz.

Since i see an OL8 on my picture, seems it would be November 8, 1970 maybe, based on the reference above sent by BobE, but still unsure if i have 28oz or 50oz which is what I'm trying to determine.

Here are my pictures of the area near the starter motor. Do these indicate 28oz or 50oz? Hope the pictures come through.

Thanks Steve - i do not have a picture. Is it behind the pulley under the water pump? I have zero experience with this part.
BobE - thanks for the reference!

Hello,
can someone point me to the right article/resource to help identify which balancer i have? I am not certain the year or age of my 302 but need to confirm if 28oz or 50oz balancer. I've read about the part numbers, but am not sure how to get to the part that helps me identify which one i have. Someone mentioned removing the starter should help make that part visible.
thanks much

wow what a tremendous response to my query! This is great!

I am in Baltimore County, MD. I did watch the CJPP video and seen where they file down the shaft for the set screw, but still didn't think that was adequate. I did end up ordering the MS lower bearing for added security, but i have to work on it under the car (quickjack). I will have to remove quite a bit if I tried to get to it from above, and I hope I don't have to do that. I ended up cutting the shaft without issue to get the steering box out. Just not sure I can finish the job 100% from under the car.
I currently have PS, but leaking badly. Considered EPAS but got the Borgeson and new pump as well. Looking forward to cruising without the worry of leaks (at least for the power steering).

Getting hard to locate folks in driving distance willing to take classic mustang work. Alot of chevy shops around, and those that will work on Mustang are too booked to take new work. Anyone know of reputable shops in reasonable distance away, please let me know.
My next job after this one is the TKX 5-speed, and that is beyond my skillset. Looking at Silver Sport Transmissions for that kit.

Hi all,
I am in the middle of the Borgeson power steering upgrade. I already had PS, but leaking badly. I have a 65 fastback, 302 motor, etc. I have read concerns about the shaft pulling out of the rag joint since it's only held together by a few set screws. Didn't realize that til i started investigating install instructions. So the MustangSteve lower bearing is supposed to address this issue, correct? If so, are those still being designed and sold? I am not sure about the U-joints and don't weld. So just looking for simple solution that corrects this concern.

thanks much!
