I could only find 5/8” full thread. I used those along with red thread lock.
We installed the motor and tranny. Now moving on to making it go VROOOOOM...
Word to the wise, if your son’s senior high project is to R & R mom’s worn out 289 while you put a new front end under it, don’t put your house for sale. We sold our home in 27 hours! Now we have parts and the car stored at various locations....where did that crank pulley go?....

I am installing the motor/tranny (rebuilt, stock 289 & c4) in my wife's 1965 mustang. I cannot find the flex plate to crankshaft bolts! I searched online for a set of 6. Does anyone know the proper length and if they are full-thread, i.e. no shoulder? Online photos/descriptions provided by suppliers show various combinations of 0.6" to 1" long, part shoulder, no shoulder, taller hex cap (like a normal hex cap bolt), shorter hex cap, etc. Just when I find what I think is the correct set, they are named "flywheel" bolts. To my knowledge, flex plate bolts are not interchangeable. Flywheel bolts will have a shoulder due to the flywheel thickness.
I know they are 7/16" 20 pitch. The crank holes will accept a 1" long bolt, for both flex plates and flywheels. I am 99% confident the cap is short and full thread, like most flex plate bolts. But I cannot find a supplier that shows this in the description!
We have two weeks to pack up, as we sold our house. Time is very critical; I can't afford a trial and error process. Your input is appreciated. Thank you.
Now, if I can find the 4th flange nut for flex plate to converter.....ugh!!! I hate moving.

To All, thanks for your input. It was an aftermarket, but held fine for 5 years or so. If I decide to go back to PS (the car is far from stock), I'll weld it on. But I'm still curious why it failed. Maybe it just took that long to get fatigued. For now, I'll get back to finishing my wife's 65 convertible. Had c4 rebuilt, put new stuff underneath up front, painted the engine bay, and patiently waiting for machine shop to finish the 289.

The PS ram on my 66 pushed the frame bracket and ripped the mount bolts off the frame. Just two nasty holes exist where the bolts used to thread into the frame. What could have caused this? I didn't run over anything and the frame is not rusted nor damaged. And, ideas how to fix it? Tried everything, but the ram appears to be creating too much force.
I like the way it drives without PS, and I might remove the PS. Would I need a manual center link and outer tie rods and sleeve to make it manual steering?

thanks to all of you! sounds like it starts with proper construction, proper insulation, and small openings. at least i didn't see any horror stories, other than working on the car without clothing, lol! And I agree, the proper beer at the proper temp would certainly help!
Regarding Texas, I had to cross it off the list (although it's our type of political climate) after I walked across the parking lot in South Padre at 7 am.....and needed to dry off before getting into the car. Wow!!

We are retiring to the gulf coast later this summer. I've noticed very few homes with shops. Any reason? I can built a shop,but what are the concerns for humidity? Most self-appointed experts say air flow with dehumidifier set to below 60. What have others living in Florida to Mississippi found most helpful? I refuse to sell my 65 conv GT, 66 Resto mod, the 54 five window, or the kxr supercharged conv jag. I drive these regularly. Thx for sharing your experiences.

So it looks like I can order the proper bracket set for a small bearing GT2008 RSM from MS. And with my 17" wheels, it should fit. Does that sound accurate?
While I'm at it, I oughta order MS modified brake pedal for my 66 a long with his boooster. I installed a set from Master Power Brakes for the front a few years ago. While they perform as intended, I cannot get used to the long pedal travel, almost to the floor. I've bled them multiple times and checked each line independently and still no change.

I understand wanting a modern, safe car for your new driver. But, my first car was a 66 stang. That was in 1985. My grandmother raised me, so I did not have the luxury of a father to show me the ropes when it came to automobiles (or anything else). With that car, I taught myself how to do brake jobs, disc brake swaps, bypass a solenoid, r and r a motor, rebuild a motor, vehicle wiring, replace clutch, rebuild alternators, swap starters, rebuild a three speed non-sinc tranny ( took a few times to get it right), rebuild a rear end, rebuild carb, diagnose fuel/electrical problems, etc. Most of this was not because the car was a lemon, I was an idiot and swapped everything over to v8. We moved around a lot so high school friends were limited to a few. But with the knowledge I gained, I was the kid everyone called to help when their car stranded them. It gave me a sense of purpose. I learned patience and humility (spent many hours on the road side making "repairs"). Plus it was MY car. Late in my senior year I had to pay rent, so I sold the car. I actually had tears running down my face when it left my driveway, never to be seen again. That old, outdated, unsafe car was one of the best experiences in my life. Because of that car, I became an engineer and was able to retire at 47 last year. So, get your nephew the classic, someone needs to keep the spirit alive!!!
BTW, my second daughter drives our 67, which we are selling, but it needs bodywork. So now she begs me to drive the 66, mom's 65 convertible or my 54 chevy five window!!! And they don't have the fancy electronics to distract them (loud stereos, USB IPhone ports, GPS,etc).
Ahhh, to be a kid again....

I hope someone can give me some insight. I found a Craigslist post stating:
" a rear disc brake conversion for a ford car or truck using 15" wheels ,if you have the same axle bearing bolt pattern as an 8.8 ford this will fit all brackets,cables,clamps,hoses,bolts and brake line for an easy install". I think the 8.8 bolt pattern is the same, 5x4.5.
I have a v8 66 coupe with factory rear end. Will this "kit " work? I have 17" wheels and installed front power disc kit years ago.

good points, MS. Turns out the car is a one-owner with under 60k miles. It drives like a dream and will make a great, reliable driver. The entire interior is still like new. Best of all, it was repainted and is no longer pink! Good news for our son, who will be driving in about a year. Needless to say my wife sucessfully negotiated a reasonable price, mainly because it came from an area that salts the roadways. We have sheetmetal to replace for sure. But it will make a great family project over the next year, and to us, that's priceless. When the boy is out of highschool, mom will make it pink again and use it as a driver! Now we have a 65, a 66 and 67 mustang, two F250s, a F150, a ranger...see a pattern yet? I'll admit, we bought a 54 chevy 5 window last year. Guess they all can't be Fords.

we are looking at a 67 playboy pink coupe today. it has a marti report. it supposedly has a sports sprint package, vinyl top, split bench, 289. we did some quick research and it appears 200-275 were produced. Are these stangs rare? Worth any $$$?

imagine working the stupid gas can with Parkinson's Disease. Sure, i'm only 44, but with basically one hand functioning and the other hand hit-and-miss, the cans are miserable! i otta sue the manufacturer for producing non ADA compliant products!
