Well.. it’s going slow but going . All wires are out of the car . Dash and under dash guts are all out as well.
With steering columns also out of the way, she is clean slate ready to start over with the Vintage Air gen5 and new wiring harness and a cable clutch etc . !

T5 is easy to rebuild ;)

Also- why is the engine out ? Cause — i had to fix wiring and AC and exhaust leaks and such that taking the engine out was an easier thing than to have to work around it ;)

Now it’s spacious to work around and rewire and drill holes etc

Upgrading to one with heat and defrost. Nothing wrong with this system. Disassembled with care . All there , all good .

This system came off a 289/302 . Two small hoses fit with stick radiator or the longer one to clear the wider  24” radiator
You will need to provide your own V belt and crank pulley.

I am back again yall! between kids and my parents moving here from India permanently and their medical care, last couple years have been a blurr. A blurr in which i longingly looked at the stang and wanted to convert it to manual and change its wiring, and all sorts of fun things. Well , my head is an inch above water now, and I am going to use that inch to do things with the mustang.

After swapping my AOD with someone here................ MS.. i now am in posession of a T5. and while the engine is out, i might as well do some other fun things to it!
like

American Auto wire complete wiring harness
Gen5 Vintage Air AC system
FIx the doors
Electric fans AGAIN -- ford Contour fans with AutoCoolGuy PWN controller
and ofcourse the t5 swap :D

Anyway - want to say Hi! again .. and hope you all are doing ok, and I hope to see you all with all this done at this upcoming bash (not mini bash)

Also -- is anyone interested in a complete Classic Air AC system for this 65 66 generation of mustangs.. its complete , but the crank pulley. I will post in the selling chat but if you are interested let me know!

Happy to be here again!

Here is my son helping me take the AOD out.

Gaba house was in a nutty season , and still is, but we are building a callous— so we can get back into things we find joy in , and not just the daily grind ..

Hence my mustang!! Been driving it — haven’t made a change since the IL trip— still running  well except the turn signals not running well. Which I will fix sometime .

How are y’all!!??

And have you seen the new “Carb Cheater” made by Luke Finley (Thunderhead289) on YouTube? Very interested in it.. but also interested in thoughts .. :D

Hope to hear from y’all soon

yes  so my wife took this pic from inside our car.. Ed barely escaped this young horse, and i slammed on my brakes as this horse was freaked out seeing a stampede of other metal ponies and jsut started running!
I hope the horse is OK and the owner found it, as there was quite a bit of traffic coming on both sides

Thank you so much again Terri and Lisa!! This was an amazing bash!!  Loved to see everyone !!

Started from Vandalia at 3.45ish and home in Van Alstyne Texas at 2.45am!!!

Gabas are home safe ! all 5 of us a sore from the long drive! But it was worth every minute of it

Only issue I had was that the headlight relays overheated where they were mounted (no airflow) and died .

I had spares , and repositioned them with zip ties where they got air!

Glad that the “minivan” made it to and from the bash!

HAH! nope... no one has heard from me! thanks to Billy for pointing to me to this thread! :D
347 is running, running well, i am still listening for wierd noises and clickety clacks.

Runing a 600CFM summit carb on it , and headman headers I bought from Paul .

Yesterday I was in the garage redoing my PCV sheild/ baffle as I noticed an oil puddle coing from the carb butterflies .. realizing its been sucking up and burning oil from the PCV ...

and putting ARP hardware and lock washers on the header bolts (half of them LOL as accessible) to get the headers to stay on and not get loose..

It sounds good, I bet it will run a bit better with the less oil it burns LOL :D

It seems to be making good power , I am waiting on the second oil change now. anohter 1000 miles or so, and we shall see

CLickety clacks coming from the full roller system are apparently normal. nothing is loose in there so that is that :D

how are you ?

ALRIGHT FOLKS!!! its built and going! BIG , HUGE , MASSIVE, GINORMOUS thanks to AL McGee and Paul May , for all the help and support and late nights, and broken backs! you both are amazing! Paul helped me by letting me use his lift, and bugging him day in and day out with questions, and texts.. and then doing stuff to my car i was too afraid too !! :D

AL,Thank you for going out of your way to help with this crazy project and sticking with me !

It was a fun time, and stressful time, but it got done!

347 is running well !! i will post details about the engine, and pics and videos later.

Update #1

The cam (bought brand new from summit and dip shipped from Howard’s cam) was warped 0.010”

Apparently this is a big issue with cam manufacturers now a days . They have warped / bent cores they are machining .

According to Kim barr 1 or every 5 cams of any company he is working with are warped , that he then has to straighten out ..

The max clearance on a cam bearing is 0.003” so if it’s not within that spec , it ain’t right.

Here is the distributor gear

The engine had been throtoughly washed with a pressure washer and soap before assembly

Engine also had three complete oil changes .

Oil filter only showed shiny non magnetic material being caught as I saw it

It’s going to a new machine shop today — Kim barr.. Kim barr had a theory that he thinks the engine components were not balanced properly .. but definitely wants to redo all line hones, cylinder hones etc.

New rings will go in no question asked . I was worried I had gapped them wrong , and I will redo those with new cylinder hone.

Kim barr also said to bring the cam , as he has noticed a bunch of “bowed” cams from factory. 0.005 off .. with a total clearance available on the bearings of 0.003 .

He insisted that bring the new cam to him to check the new bearings with towards the end of his work

Still a 2 -3 week wait

The vertical lines in the bore are concerning to me.  I'm assuming these were not there when the engine came back from the machine shop?

They were not. They smooth and the other side of the lines are on piston skirts as photographed. All smooth , nail doesnt catch on piston or cylinder walls.

Gaba, I sure hate to see you have to go through this. Several of us have already....this is not a place where misery loves company!!

I do see the marks on the bearings, do the pictures do them justice…. are the groves better or worse than they appear on the computer screen. Will a finger nail grab on any of the groves in the bearings? I don’t know that bearing material is gonna cause that much wear for the cylinders.

With the buildup on the piston tops, could there have been a vacuum leak? How does the intake ports look on the heads? Intake gasket was sealed well?

You mentioned the flex plate bolts imprinted on the torque converter. Is there a chance of a this pushing the crank forward? How does the thrust bearing look and did yall measure it before pulling it apart?

Did the cam turn freely in the block during assemble?

And finally, what's the story with this comment??

MS wrote:

Don’t forget about the most important engine assembly procedure used.

Park the incomplete assembly near workbench. Use angle grinder to distribute grinding dust all over the shop.

Just sayin’… might not be the cause, but…

no bearings look just as they seem in the pics. No deep grooves, nothing catches the nail.

Cylinder wear... i didnt think there was bad cylinder wear. The vertical lines are smooth and dont catch the nail

Build up on piston tops.... Vaccum leak not that I know of. The gaskets were glued on so well, I am having a tough time cleaning them off the heads now. oil blowby.. maybe.. i dont know how to tell.

it could be, I am going to possibly use thinner head bolts the next time to make sure that doesnt happen. Also the engine to Torque converter alignment was hard to accomplish with me on the back. I could have made a litte alignment mistake.

Thrus be
