I'll be the last to say it.... adjust the valves like stated above. BECAUSE.......
Back when I was "less-learned".. I decided to adjust the valves (while running) to quieten down the old 302 engine in a truck I just bought. I went through it a couple times to make the 'click-clack' go away. (it did)
I didn't drive it very long at all before it started skipping.
Burnt an exhaust valve !
Expensive life lesson

I'm kinda that way about watching submarine flicks.
Whether I say it out loud or just think it...."That ain't how its done...that is sooo phoney...eye-roll...eye-roll....what made-up cra-/poop...man! that's just stupid."
So I don't watch them (usually)
Yeah....'made-up-drama'...and most folks seem to buy-it (or else nobody would watch them)
I DID like the car series Cut-Chop-and Rebuild though

I just turn a relief at the upper end and engage the back gear to run it real slow.

Disengaging the split nut stops it just fine...no issues.

In the 'can't-find-dick-department'.......Youngsters 390/2 barrel F-250 (72) had fuel pouring from the bottom of
the 'cobber-raider'. Gasket for the accelerator pump orta fix it right up...right ?!!
WIWAIT overcame me and I decided to check and clean the bowl and needle & seat assembly. Being the careful and
forward-thinking car guy that I am I spread a clean towel on my work area to help organize this 'little clean & repair' venture.
Ya know that little wire clip that holds the needle to the float....tiny.
VERY necessary to the operation of the 'cobber-raider'.
Yeah.....I launched-it somewhere on my garage floor...the floor... with all the tiny little speckles and chips...mixed into the epoxy paint.
Finally located a re-build kit that had the little clip included for $20+ bux. New/rebuilt 2-barrel 'cobber-raider'...300 BUX !!
(a great incentive to re-build what you have BTW).
My 'help-me-stay-somewhat-organized trick' is to leave the draw(s) OUT until I return the tool to the draw. Granted....I may have a dozen drawers hanging OUT butt a good reminder to put my tools BACK into proper drawers.
The down side to this brilliant trick of mine is sometimes I get dirt and trash in the drawers that are open.
We ALL know how uncomfortable and awkward dirty-drawers are. Sooooooooooooooo

Yeah.....would love to see the owner  under-the-hood making checks.
I have to stand on a step ladder (while I'm on one leg!!) to get under the hood of my youngsters F-250. Trying to dodge
"bob-war" points would be too much.

I went to NAPA years ago and bought mine. Don't think it was a "name-brand" either. Just their brand of stock replacement diaphram clutch. ZERO problems !!! (don't over-think it...most of the times the rear tires slip waaaay before the clutch will.)
Diaphram design is the best for leg/foot pressure.

RCodePaul.....ya need to $hit-can that fuel flilter and replace it with one of those highly dangerous glass ones (like what I have and Shelby-Ann has) They really look 'trick' and ya can see the gas flowing through 'em AND they're a real conversation piece when you take it to a cruise-in !! Ex........"boy ya better swap out that glass fuel flilter that thang's dangerous ! You could burn down your whole ride with that liddy-biddy flilter right there"!!
IF you're not living on the edge...........your tak'in up too much space !

PS....please note: all the above wise-acre comments wuz tongue-in-check and totally in jest (jest-in-case ya din'nut know it)

I 'thank'........( in reference to Shelby-Ann'z deal)....the engine ran fine for a few minutes.....then the ignition module started ac'in-up and slowed the engine which-in-turn slowed the fuel pump which-in-turn starved the carb which-in-turn...you get the idea. Warsh-wrench-repeat It could happen !
