That was me alright.
There is a machine shop in Waynesboro that has two excellent guys there, Sanford Odom and Lynn McCullough that can also do your heads. They have also been doing it for longer than I care to remember but I do not remember the name of their shop that is located on Court Street.

I've heard that, but never had a chance to meet him.
I need to find out who he uses for machine shop work in our area.  At some point I need to have the heads from the 390 in my '68 F100 reworked.

Michael,
I would use Freddie Walker at the Universal Auto Parts machine shop (NAPA Store) in downtown Laurel. He's been rebuilding engines since 1975 at least when he taught me how to recondition connecting rods at the old Christian Auto shop. If he can't fix your 390 heads then they can't be fixed.

Just for the record, my mustang ain't got nitro or nitrous OR a pear tree, although I do enjoy eating them. It does have a Roush TVS supercharger and a Snow methanol injection just for a little cooling effect. It only makes 676 at the rear tires but still gets 23 miles to the gallon and will run somewhere north of 165 mph, given sufficient pavement.
Way north from what I have seen. :-)
Oh yeah, I do not have a line lock either.
If you see a blue 2012 Boss 302 tooling around Laurel sometime then its probably me.

After almost 3500 miles, 9 different hotel rooms, countless fuel and meal stops and unlimited sights Miss Shirley and I made it back to Mississippi safe and sound in the Boss 302 mustang. I averaged 23.7 miles per gallon from Flagstaff to home which is pretty amazing considering we consistently drove between 80 and 85 MPH.
I can't express my appreciation to the excellent preparation and planning Bullet Bob and whomever did to put on the bash. It was truly an enjoyable gathering of outstanding folks and we had a most excellent time.
For those that are wondering, new tires are on order.

Bummer, Dude. That is a big monkey wrench in the plans but nothing to stop the bash. We can always have a balona sandwich and Moon pie lunch. Whatever, we be coming.

Guys, i just finished the Hotrod Power tour where I chased a vibration in my car for over 2500 miles. Everything was smooth as silk up to 60 mph and then from there on up it was just a steady vibration and roar throughout the car. During the trip from MS to I replaced the front tires, balanced the rears and checked the front wheel bearings with no improvement. When I arrived in Eau Claire we put the car on a lift and 14 hours later we had new axle bearings(they were shot!) and rear tires, two new u-joints and a rebalanced driveshaft, a new bushing in the trans tailshaft along with a bunch of new car bugs worked out. Back on the road all was sweet until I hit the 60 MPH mark and the vibration and noise were back. 15 hundred miles later I parked the old heap in the garage and pulled the axles to check the bearings - check- all good. Tires and wheels balanced OK. Then when I removed the driveshaft I noticed a lot of slop in the yook where the universal joiunt sits. BINGO! the yoke had signs of u-joint failure in the past and the u-bolts indicated the yoke was distorted. I replaced it with a brand new yoke and now its as smooth as can be.
The u joint was not fitting tightly in between the two tangs that retain the cups and allowing it to rotate off center and setting up harmonic resonation which was destroying the new trans bushing and who knows what all else.

Yep. I am driving up from Mississippi and then do the entire tour back down to Baton Rouge. What is going to be fun is a buddy of mine here in New Zealand had his car shipped over to Fast Freddie's Rod Shop in Wisconsin for some mods and we will all be having a ball along the tour. HOPEFULLY 6Sally6 will make at leasty part of the ride with me...

Brother T, brother D is stuck in New Zealand and don't know when I will be allowed to take some time off. I have bought 3 additional cars since I have been here and it would be nice to get home and at least see them. I would love to make the cruise but at the rate I am going here I don't know when that will be. There are some awful nice cars here though.

Sal old buddy old pal, a wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse so just go for it. I think it will sound pretty cool. I used to know a bunch of rednecks that ran one glass pac and one regular muffler on their dual exhaust and it always sounded good. Heck, anything is better than the open headers you had when we was tooling around in that thang!

Very cool project. I too have a 63 Falcon Futura that came with a little 6 cyl, 144 I think. It had been much abused when my buddy rescued it from a pig pen in 1981 and we spent a lot of good evenings modifing it to accept a V-8. I still have it and plan on taking Old 6Sally6 for a spin in it some day.
I really like your idea of the inline six cylinder project. Keep us informed on progress.

Sal Old Buddy Old Pal, it was great spending time with you and catching up on some hotrodding. To me the best part of a  car is sharing it with others and you sure seemed to get a kick out of it!
A couple of corrections from your original post: it redlines at 7500 and you bumped it plenty of times during your "spirited driving"! It got 24.7 mpg while driving 80-90 mph and at an honest 70 it will get 27. ThI wish you could have heard it with the side pipes opened but in the interest of your heart I chose to keep it quiet.

If your shifter has stop bolts on it they may be too tight and not letting the transmission lever move far enough to engage a gear. Does the problem occur while the engine is running AND with it not running or only while running? Is the clutch properly disengaging to allow the transmission to shift?

In a different direction from the harmonic dampner, I once had a bad vibration in a 66 coupe that I eventually diagnosed as a worn 4 speed transmision tailshaft bushing. It was apparent by the large abount of clearance between the yoke and the bushing. I replaced the bushing with a new one and the vibration and droning was cured.

I used Intercity Lines to ship a '56 Belair from Long Island New York to southern Mississippi and they were very professional and took care of everything. Totally enclosed hauler will cost more but if you have nice paint to protect, it's the way to go.
