FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 69 disc/drum question » 11/23/2017 4:32 PM |
I have a 69 Cougar with MS 12.5" front disc conversion and 2" rear drums. I have a 2000 V6 master cyl. with the flat style tank. It's plumbed into a Wilwood adj proportional valve and 10# residual valve. I'm now able to drive the car, and the pedal is the original non power drum/drum. It is bled well, with about 3/4" of travel before hard pedal. I have the proportion adjuster backed off (counter-clock wise) to the max.Which, I believe is max front bias. It will stop, but needs a lot of foot pressure. Even, slamming the pedal will not lock up the tires. Do I need a smaller 15/16" or 7/8" master or is something else wrong?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Remote Oil Filter » 11/04/2016 9:11 PM |
DO NOT use a trans dapt remote oil filter kit. When i was doing a Ranger 5.0 swap some of us used them and they ALWAYS leak! Plus, you can't index them, where ever they tighten up, is where the ports will be. What you want, is Canton's oil filter relocator. Part #22-595 retails for $103, but I found mine for about $80. It's indexable, so you can tighten it in any position. It won't leak. Had one on my 5.0 Range for over 10 years without leaking

Not peeling, most of the black streaks that simulate the wood grain are just brown. I'm in FtWorth right now I can take some better pics next Mon.

it is original 69, no switch or pad.

I fixed a couple cracks with epoxy putty and painted it with polyurethane. The switch channel is clean, but a small hairline crack developed after tugging on the wheel turning the car without power steering. Would take $100+shipping.

Get "something" and stick in the hole to figure out the length!
I would use socket head bolts with a washer to spread the clamping force and....they look cool for the guy changing the oil!

Copy that, it seems so obvious now that you say that.... I took one of the pan bolts with a washer from the old 302 and threaded in there w/o the pan in place and could not get it to bottom out. For gasket, use the one from the kit with or with out rtv?
Got the new intermediate drive in place, bolted in the new melling pump and p/u, wondering about torque numbers?
Setting the pan in place it seems I need the timing cover in place first which brings up the question of which cover. Any reason I can't use a 65-70 timing chain cover with the pre drilled oil dipstick if I am going serpentine belt?
Depends on which serpentine system you are going to use, aftermarket..yes, early 86-93 gt...yes, 94-95 gt, T-bird, Lincoln..no and Explorer no.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Explorer 5.0 in 69 Cougar » 9/01/2016 7:45 PM |
I need to know if an Explorer 5.0 with Explorer accessories will fit into my 69 Cougar. I've look online and can't find any posts or pics of one in any kind of Mustang. But, also not finding anyone who says it won't fit. This engine was in my 93 Ranger, I can't believe it would fit in there and not a Cougar.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Finally my fastback is back on the road again » 9/01/2016 7:17 PM |
For what it's worth, when I used to work at Advanced Auto Parts, Blue Devil engine block sealer was the only one our professional garages would use. But, it cost like $60. They say it works.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » New engine combo in my Cougar » 8/24/2016 6:14 AM |
I guess the best thing to do is leave it as is for now, I was toying with putting a single or dual quad setup on it, but that too would probably just mess things up. I'm considering using a Ron Francis EFI wiring kit to wire the EFI and upgrade the injectors to 24 or 30lbs and the MAS to something closer to 65MM which is what the throttle body is. And having a custom chip burned for the 9AL computer I'm using. Hopefully this will push the hp up closer to 400 and offset the additional 400+lb weight of the Cougar. Now the difficult part..submitting this to the finance manager/wife.

I am about to install my old 306 into my 69 Cougar. Concerning the GT40 heads, I've heard about how low performance they are several times, but I have a set of 96 Explorer non P heads which I did just a little port matching, Crane springs and roller pedestal rockers. This is on a flat top piston 306, with a TFS stg II cam and GT40 EFI with 19lb inj. It ran consistant low 13's at 103 in a 3100lb Ranger with a T5. Would it really be worth while to dump them in favor of aluminum ones, like inexpensive one's not AFR 205's or something?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Brakes sorta done » 6/27/2016 8:51 PM |
I was able to purchase one of Steve's front big brake kits from a Cougar forum member who changed his build after buying it, along with some other hardware. I had already installed a 2000 V6 1" master cylinder, and decided to just rebuild the rear drums for now to get it on the road. I can't drive it yet, as there's no engine in it yet. But, have about 1" of free pedal and then nice and firm.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 69 Cougar clutch » 4/24/2016 7:36 AM |
I now have a retro fitted clutch pedal and roller bearing kit. Undecided as to which clutch system to go with. I don't have any headers yet so, shortys could be used for clearance if necessary. And price IS a factor. No Z bar either. it's a T5/306. Leaning towards the Modern Driveline cable setup for cost and easy installation. My Ranger has a homemade hyd setup and I HATED bleeding that master cyl!

That must have been a REALLY fast Mustang TKO..it would be faster than Bob Glidden;s 340 cid Clevland 1978 Fairmont, tube chassis, lenco 5speed, 2400 lb, World Record Holding Fairmont at 8.49 158mph btw that car was the only Pro Stock ever to go undefeated in a season.
