Hey guys my dads 68 California special radiator sprung a leak up top. He took it to a radiator shop that originally was going to fix it but turns out when they got to looking at it it’s pretty much toast. My dad is now looking for a replacement radiator and was looking at maybe doing a 24” vs the standard 20” that was in it.

Does anyone know if this will just bolt in in place of the old one where the side covers were on the old one?  Or will we need to make a custom bracket to hold it in?  Also anyone know of a decent one to get for not an outrageous amount of money?  Seems like they are all over the place on material and cost.

Hey everyone hoping someone can help us out with a problem we’re having on a 68 mustang with a 289. It looks like the coolant is leaking when we fill it up from the front passenger side corner on the intake and back driverside corner. It looks like it’s coming from 2 bolts that go through the intake then are open then goes into the heads . Do we need to put thread sealant on these bolts or does it sound like we should pull and re seal the intake?  Any help is appreciated.

Ok I think I got it squared away. I was able to extend my steering shaft to where the rag joint is right up against the steering box like you showed. I then pulled it back and got a file and dremel and put a little bit of a flat spot on the shaft and set the set screw with lock tight and the lock nut. I then pulled out the stud that was missing the washer and bolt and was able to find one in my extra bolts and nuts I have.  I put the new washer on and put lock tight on the nut and tightend it up as much as I could.  It got to a point where it would just turn. I put a pair of needle nose plyers on the stud to try and hold it but it didn’t work that well.

I checked the steering wheel and it doesn’t budge now up or down. It’s allot more solid than it was.
Also my horn works like it should now too so I’ll take that.

Wow hey guys thank you for all the replies. I appreciate it. I was out sick for a little bit. But now am back at it. I was able to get out and take a look at it today and this is what it looks like.

Definetley  missing that washer and nut from the top. I haven’t opened the u joint so I could always send it back.  But now that I’m looking more into this. It looks like it’s not even on correctly. I was reading on some borgeson instructions for a rag joint and it says it needs to be pretty much just about right up to the bottom of the steering column. Which o don’t think I can get any closer as it’s already really close to the fire wall.   And also from what I found it said. Not to tighten the lock but on the section that has the groove on the steering box. Where it looks like mine is.

I don’t know if I have enough steering shaft from my column  to get it past that groove. If I recall it is collapsible so I may be able to pull a little more out. But I’ll have to see.

Hey everyone. I just need a little help. My father and I are putting his 68 California special back together and there are these parts which were unsure where’s they go. On his c4 transmission. I believe 2 of them are a hard vacuum line and the other is a kick down lever. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Hey everyone I have a 66 mustang with 302 v8 and mustang at Steve cable clutch conversion and borgeson set up with a collapsible column from a 69 mustang. I currently have a borgeson rag joint installed and when I went to take the car out recently I noticed my steering wheel was moving up and down when I went to adjust my seat. I pulled back into the garage and looked under the hood and it looks like the rag joint lost a bolt and nut. So instead of re doing it. I’ve just picked up a u joint from borgeson.

Has anyone went from a rag joint to u joint with a borgeson. I assume it’s the same install as a rag joint but it will just be the u joint. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, definitely nice.
How/where did you purchase?
May have to look into this option for future.

I purchased directly from their website. They also carried them at I think Cj pony parts. But said they were out of order. I called pro car by scat directly and Was told they are even out and behind by 8 weeks. So I figured what the heck I’ll order them. And just wait but they ended up showing up in a week.

Thanks BobE. I’m first tackling the back rest right now and will be doing the lower seat part next. I will keep that in mind. I see what your talking about though already I have my lower bench seat sitting on the top of the car and in the middle there is a separate piece of foam it looks like to give it more rigidity for the hump.

Ok so I dug more into the back seat today and I’ve definitely decided to replace everything minus the frame. Found lots more mice droppings. So got the mask, glasses and gloves on and sprayed everything down with bleach as I took it apart to keep the dust down and just trashed it. Now I’m down to the frame. The good news is the frame is in decent condition not really allot of rust. I’ll touch it up and begin sourcing padding. Has anyone used anything different from burlap to cover the back seat before the padding goes on. I was thinking maybe some Vinyl would work better

Yeah the more I thought about it. I’m going to replace it. I have been looking around and can’t find any foam for it though. Plenty of stuff for fastbacks but nothing I have Seen for foam on the 66 coupe.  The only thing I just found is a kit from npd that’s says it’s a padding kit. Does anyone know if that’s all I need or is it actually foam that I’ll need?

Hey everyone just had a quick question for you. I’m in the process of re doing my back seat covers on my 66 mustang. And found some mice feces in the crevasses around the frame. I sprayed it with some bleach and was about to clean it up and re use it.  The foam looks good still but I wasn’t sure if that is ok to do or should I just look for new foam. Haven’t really ever dealt with this before.

Or is the foam something I can just go to my local craft store and pick up. Any advise is appreciated.

Wow thank you everyone so much for your replies and thank you so so much Mach1driver. I greatly appreciate you sharing those schematic’s. That is going to be so helpful.  After reading all the comments and looking at the websites for American auto wire and for painless. I looked into the stock harness being sold from npd. And I found a Scott drake one which is a main under dash one. But it has a modern 12 circuit atc fuse block and relays. It also has correct connectors and color coded wires l. It also has a spare hot and keyed terminals on the fuse block. It looks like it may be a little more expensive than doing a painless or aaw one as the other harnesses I’d have to buy for it. But this would I think maybe let me customize it more and with possibly less work than doing one of the other ones.

Has anyone seen one of these Scott drake ones.

Ok, so I’m working my way through my mustang and I’ve known for a while I’m going to need to tackle the wiring on my 66 mustang coupe as the wiring is brittle and when you strip any portion of
It it’s corroded with green mixed in with the copper. I haven’t really had any issues with it.. knock on wood.  I have it driving and running nice but I think I should really start looking at doing the wiring soon before I start seeing problems. I’m debating going with American auto wire or painless. Has anyone had any experience with these. Any input is appreciated.  Im going to be looking at adding some modern features like led headlights and electric fan maybe power windows and door locks.  Do these kits have the required circuits for that type of stuff?

Yes. Absolutely. Any recommendations on some good material. I heard dyno mat leaves like a tar smell in the car. And the existing wool and rubber  below my carpet ain’t cutting it.

Alright everyone. I wanted to give an update. I was finally able to get around to this project. Here is the end result. I ended up spraying it with duplicator bed liner paint from the local auto store. I then installed camper foam tape all around it and screwed it in with the self tapping screws it came with. I haven’t had a chance to take it for a spin yet but here’s how it looks.

Alright!  I got it on. I got it super close and still couldn’t get it over all the way. Turns out the seem where the body joins together was blocking it a little. I bent it just a little and that put it right where I was trying to get it.

Thanks.

Ok got the old valance off and cleaned up the area below it.  Today I started fitting it. It definitely didn’t fit right. I looked up Mustang Steve’s guide on how to fit the rear valance and took it back to the vice about 4-5 times to bend it slightly to get things matched up. I got it pretty darn close. See pics.   I don’t think i can get it any closer with bending it. It’s not to far off. My question is do you think to get the fit that I need would it be ok to oval the mounting holes in the valance a little where the Phillips head screws go. As it’s a minimal amount it will need to slide over. To mount it. Or should I just drill new holes in the car to mount it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
