Hope it turns out great, and in a timely fashion. Nightmist is the original color of the Heap, beautiful color. Bring it to the bash in September so we can all lean against it...LOL.

Well, for me the decision is....you gonna look at it or drive it? Early, flat tappet engine, stock seats will not make most of us happy on a long trip, no power brakes. Otherwise, it does appear to be well done. To me this is a weekend, local show car, not something you would want to drive from Texas to SoCal, or visa-versa. And, no pix of the underside.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Has anyone put a vaccum cannister on their car or maybe a vaccum pump » 3/09/2025 7:41 PM |
Billy; Best brake pressure I could get with no pump and the cam I was running was 650 - 700 lbs at the caliper....not nearly enough. I put on a custom bracket with a mechanical vac pump from a E450 diesel and a vac tank with check valve. The pump held 17" of vac and I was then able to measur 1200 -1400 lbs of brake pressure. Problem solved.
For you, unless you want to fab up a bracket, I would do as TKO suggests and find a boneyard electric vac pump and connect it through a check valve to a tank. That should solve you problem.

Let me think on it. Might be a good shake-down run for the BASH. Jean's starting to get nerval about me driving places alone. As far as anyone has told me I ain't having any trouble butt (TS&T), I am gonna hit the big 80 in August.
I replaced the ign. switch and have around 700 miles on the Heap since the first of the year. Need to rack up a couple of thousand before the BASH to see if that cured the "Auto Shut-Down" feature.

Way better to find this stuff now, rather than five miles into the maiden voyage. We all done been there.

The extension pipe is bent downward because it hits the cross member brace. The collectors are above the bottom of the frame rail meaning they don't hang below the frame rail.
It looks like you might fab an extension pipe that comes straight back at the same, or only slightly lower, than the header flange, and also migrates to toward the transmission to pass under the trans support cross member as it sweeps up. This is how mine works but with HIPO mannys instead of headers. That gets the intermediate pipes nearer or slightly into the DS tunnel where they can be as high as possible.

My old JD has been mowing and pushing snow for 23 years. I got the hyrostatic drive model which came with a one-lung Kohler engine. 651 hours, one fuel tank, one starter, one spark plug, and regular oil/filter changes.
Butt (TS&T), I wouldn't buy a new one. Thought about a zero-turn but decided to keep the the JD afloat and spend the money on something fun....like car stuff.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Brake light switch and intermittent brake light operation. » 2/10/2025 9:26 AM |
Yup Bob, that's another thing about those danged hydraulic switches...they can and will cause a low current drain that will only barely make the filaments glow, but will run the battery down.

What John Ha says....plus, back in the 60's when I worked as an Auto Eeee-Lec-Trician for Sears and Sawbuck, I bet I replaced over 50 of those hydraulic switches in the few years I works there. Replace the switch. If bypassing the switch makes the lights work, there ain't much else that can go wrong. Maybe some weird issue with the master cyl, butt (TS&T), I doubt it.

Rufus is referring to the "Start" position load on the ignition switch. That would be more than the switch was originally designed for. I'm sure a lot of folks have connected the PMGR directly to the stock ign. switch without issue but it's something to consider, I guess, with a stock early Ford switch.

Like the GM solenoids of old...and maybe of today.

Good idea, Rufus, I was not aware of the solenoid current draw on the "Mini". Never owned one.

First, welcome to the best place on the web,...or one of them. Second: you probably should start a new thread rather than adding a new subject to an existing thread.
Third: I think those "mini" starters all have a built in solenoid that handles the high current and engages the drive gear. I believe you can bypass the stock solenoid completely, except for the brown "coil bypass" wire by running a large cable from the battery side of the stock solenoid to the new starter. And, run a jumper from the S terminal of the stock solenoid to the S terminal of the new starter. That way when you turn the ignition switch to start, both solenoids will close but the stock one will only provide 12V for coil bypass when starting.
Or....You can run the stock "starter cable" to the big lug on the new starter and make a small jumper to go from the big lug to the small "S" terminal of the new starter. This is the simplest and will power the new starter and close it's solenoid when you turn to "start" and close the stock solenoid.
Hope this helps.

Thanks BB, if I mentioned I was looking for a convertible I have moved on, I just don’t recall. I wouldn’t mind having one, but I need to focus on thinning the herd. Right now I have the following and would consider letting go of a few except the top three on the list.
1967 mustang gta (Penny)
1969 S code, 4sp Mach 1 (Tramp)
1975 bronco
1976 f250 4sp 4x4
1966 gt coupe
1964 mercury comet caliente
1956 ford fairlane 99% rust free
1985 gt with ttops 5sp
1967 dark moss green fb project
1995 supercharged cobra convertible dyno’d at 400hp/396torque
1986 jeep grand wagoneer
I went up to Grand Junction and checked out a 67 or 68 Vert for someone not long after the Wemberley Bash. Thought it was you. Oh well, no big deal, just makin' conversation.

Yup, Rudi. They tell you to run the machine in reverse and start at the relief butt (TS&T) with a screw-on chuck I get a bit nerval about that. I just turn a relief at the upper end and engage the back gear to run it real slow. Disengaging the split nut stops it just fine...no issues.
