ok so I couldn't leave this alone.i blocked the front wheels jacked up the rearend and started doing some tests.with wheels and drums off, less vibratition, then wedged wood in the exhaust and seeming no vibration(on jack stands).took the wheels down to my buddy and balanced them again,to my surprise they were off(kinda got giddy thinking this would be the answer).put everything back together,on stands it seemed better, then the road test and STILL A VIBRATION ! comes in about 60mph and very noticeable at 70mph.i forgot to mention that when I did the t5 and rebuild of the 3rd member I also bought new backing plates drums and drum assembly from quickperformance.can drums be out of balance?

it's funny you guys bring up the damper or whatever it's called because I was talking yesterday with a buddy who builds hotrods and he brought up the same thing. I will look into that ,willing to try anything.i don't recall having the vibration with the c4 or when it was a 3.10 open but then again didn't put the car on the highway until the t5 was in it.

well guys still a vibration.pretty disappointed! will change the bushing in the spring as the season is short here in maine and I have a ton of work and hunting starts in a week.

a quick update.i've installed 4 degree wedges to get the correct pinion angle.i got a new tailshaft bushing and seal.I've installed the seal(holding off on the bushing for now).bought a new slip yoke and ujoints.took the driveshaft back to the company that made it last year to have it balanced they called and said it was bent and needed to be replaced.they went good for all but $50.i will install tonight and road test.when I installed the t5 last year I was trying it out and on a hard launch I got a lot of wheel hop for which the next weekend I installed traction masters, could this wheel hop have caused the driveshaft to warp?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » t5 tailshaft bushing » 9/12/2016 5:34 AM |
thanks guys,i talked with glenn yesterday,he thinks I should start with the pinion angle first as the tailshaft bushing and driveshaft only have 1k on them.i will start there this week.the only old part on the driveshaft is the old slip yoke

is there a way to change a tailshaft bushing on a t5 with the tranny still in the car?since the t5 swap ive got a vibration and very noticeable at 70mph.let me back up its a 66 coupe ,289 with an 86 t5 in it,9" rear end.also I am getting a new slip yoke as the old one is the origonal from the 6cyl c4.any recommendations?i've always had a minor drip out of the tailshaft seal..the ujoints are new as well as the driveshaft(which will be going back to be balanced.also the pinion angle is in question I have 2.5 deg down at tailshaft and 0 deg at pinion any recommendations on shims would be appreciated as well.thanks in advance.

anybody know why when I installed a cheap grant steering wheel my power steering got jerky and not what I liked with the stock wheel?it's a borgeson unit that I've had for 2yrs and felt great with stock wheel but my 6'8" son complained he needed more room to shift the t5 upgrade so I thought a smaller wheel would help along with seat track extenders.but not happy any help would be appreciated.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Borgeson / 66 coupe / steering column problem » 4/05/2016 6:10 PM |
I found a phone number on the www.can't remember where thou.it was a ujoint with spline on both ends with a joint in the middle and a set screw.never drove the car with the rag joint on the road so no way to compare but I have no vibration in my steering wheel.the joint the sent me takes the place of the rag joint, that with
ms's bearing is the way to go.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Borgeson / 66 coupe / steering column problem » 4/05/2016 12:22 PM |
hi julien i had the same problem with my installation on my 66 coupe.my rag joint actually ripped apart(luckily it happened in the body shop)borgeson replaced it with a ujoint and 2000 miles with no problems.the spring under the steering wheel is always pulling on the shaft.ms"s bearing in the column is the way to go as it will hold the shaft in place.borgeson is aware of this problem on the 64-66 kit.they sent out the ujoint at no cost.i didn't have to cut my shaft when installing the ujoint.

looking for some info on flowmasters.last summer I changed from longtube heddman header to hedman shorties.the result with flowmaster 40s was a lot more drone in the interior.i like the loud exterior sound of the 40s but the drone is more than I care for.was wondering if anybody had gone from 40s to the delta 40 and what the difference was?

I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN BEAT TO DEATH BUT WHEN SEARCHING PAST POST I NEVER FOUND A DEFINATE ANSWER.i have a 1966 coupe 289(stockheads) t5 with ms cable, borgeson ps.i have long tube hedman on it now that need replacing and hang to low, going with shortys.is there a shorty that will bolt in without a bfh?i just want an easy installation without having to modify anything else(dont want stock or hipo) .looking at patriot clipsters or hedman elite.cost is facter but if there is one that will clear everything with no mods that cost more i will save a little longer for an easy installation.thanks in advance.
