Its been a really long time since I did this.  I think its been 4 years since I rebuilt my last c4.  I think your right with the 1 3/4 turns.  I'd have to check my vids to confirm..

Put plenty of timing in the engine (butt-knot so much it rattles) Adjust carb again with a vacuum guage.
You COULD disconnect the front sway bar while at the strip to get max lift of the front end when launching. (Just re-connect when you drive it home.)
Don't get in the water box unless its just for pictures.
Open them headers brother!

6sally6,

I have to be honest, I have not done that.  I'm learning a lot as I go and the car has been running so good I'm some times scared to mess with it if it isn't broken.  Is there a good read on how to do the spring swap and dial it in after?  If I understand what I'm doing I could take it on.

I won't bother with the front sway bar, but I'll be sure to unload any extra gear that isn't needed.  I'm looking forward to doing a few runs.  It will be fun.

hey all,

Taking my '66 coupe to the strip at the end of the month.  i've only been once.  didn't have great results back then.. car is running much better so I figured it was time to give her another go.

'66 coupe
'95 50
offy intake
edlebrock 1405 4brl carb
long tube headers 2.25" dual exhaust
rebuilt c4 with shift kit
2,79 rear with power trax locker
shelby style traction bars
225/60r15s on the back

My car is a lot of fun to drive but i would exactly call it fast.  I can squawk the tires but can't do a brake stand at all.  However if the street is even a little wet the tires will spin like crazy.  Had a guy I respect a lot when it comes to cars tell me that my hp may not be high but my not being able to do a brake stand isn't a bad thing.  Saying that it makes for a quicker launch because the leafs, traction bars, and tires are doing their job gripping the road.

I'm not sure if i believe that so i ask what are your thoughts?

Any suggestions for having more success at the track?  I'm only looking to break my old times, which should be more than easy since i had serious transmission issues when i was there last.

What can i do for just a little more power (not like you ever have enough right)?

Not looking to set records, just have a good time and set a better time and get some cool video.

Thanks.

yes.  The current m/c was bench bleed.  Each corner of the car has been bled now 3x.  In the proper order.

The backs are standard drums with all new hardware, wheel cylinders, shoes.

The fronts are the scarebird conversion.

My braking was excellent until I went to power brakes.  My booster is new.  I had my friend, who is a mechanic, review my work because I was doubting what I had done.

Over the last few years I've converted my car to power disc brakes.  I'm 99% sure that some how I have the wrong m/c on the car.  The performance is not right.  Everything related to brakes is new and done right.  The car will not stop strongly.  Its not safe to drive.  In fact it feels like the brake pedal bottoms out (although its not hitting the floor).  I even took my car to a pro mechanic and after some trouble shooting he is convinced I have the wrong master cylinder.  After speaking to him, I agree with him.  So I'm ready to buy another one.

This is what I have.

66 mustang
5.0 with carb
c4
MustangSteve modified pedal hanger and modified pedal.
fox body 4 cylinder booster
dual bowl m/c

For the life of me I can't find the receipt for the m/c but I think it is a 74 maverick ds/dr power brake m/c.  I'm 99.9% sure that it is wrong so my question is what is the part number for the m/c that I wan?

The site says:
=14Iron Disc/Drum or Disc.Disc 1.0" bore  $75.00  =14(Similar to 70 Mustang original) =14
Aluminum Disc/Disc 1.0" bore   $120
=14 =14(2000 Mustang V6)I've looked at rockauto.com but they have a selection and I want to be sure I get it right this time.I can add a picture if that helps.

Thanks guys.

I picked up another bottle of fluid.  I'll do another bleed and really open up the bleeder.  I do about a 1/4 go. 1/3 turn but I'll make sure its open and do it again.  Just to be sure there are no doubts.

I'll report back!

Hi All, I'm looking for some brake help please.

I have a '66 coupe with the standard drums in the back, a scarebird bracket set up in the front, and the mustang steve pedal.  I put on a power booster and new master cylinder last year.  It is a disc/drum m/c and I have a prop valve to the rear brakes.

Now things are working but I'm not able to lock up the tires which I think I should be able to do.  I can bottom out the brake pedal, meaning take it to the floor, and although there is pressure, its not enough to lock up the tires.  I can drive the car but can not do an emergency stop.  The car brakes feel normal unless I need a 'quick stop'.

Now I did new cheap pads in the front last year which was suggested.  This did help.  I found a leaky wheel cylinder in the right rear.  I corrected this and now I have all new hardware, shoes, and wheel cylinders in the rear.  I have adjusted the rear brakes correctly.  Then I have bleed the brakes twice.  Still not the solid stop that I am expecting.

Now I also wanted to say that I had a manual maverick m/c (disc/drum) set up on there prior to the power booster and I could lock up the brakes.  Another thing that is probably not normal is that I put a 'in line' brake light switch.  I did this because I was having troubles with my brake lights coming on when I touched the brakes like I wanted them to.  This seemed like a easy fix.

I don't remember the year/car that the m/c is from but I do recall asking which one I needed when I did the swap so I'm confident that it should work and it is new.  I will check and I will take pictures of everything if this might help provide additional information.

I can also say that the push rod is adjusted correctly.  I've checked this a couple times last year and adjusted it, performace is the same.

My gut tells me that things are still not bled right.  I plan on doing another bleed this coming weekend.  I'm going to really go through a lot of fluid to be sure I've got

hey all,

My car is far from body and paint, which would include new door and window seals.  I was thinking about tearing off the old dry rotted unsealing seals and putting new ones on just to make it quieter.  maybe better for rain and wind, etc.  Hate to waste the money but I'm not gonna do body and paint any time soon.

Thoughts?  Should I just suck it up or not even bother?  Just looking for ideas.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Dumb question.  Just got the nice 3.5" fan shroud from NPD today.  I thought it would be easy to figure out by looking at it but as it turns out, I'm not that bright.  I do have the install brackets as well.  Any one know which way it goes or can provide any pictures?

Thanks
Richard

I can honestly say I have never understood the need for an overflow tank on a SBF.  I have never had one, I live where it is routinely over 100 degrees for many months in a row, and my radiator does not lose any water.
But, if you have to have one, I like 6sally6's best.  I think it was a Colt 45 beer can.

Seriously, if any of you want one of those tubular billet aluminum jobs, gather up enough of you to make a group buy and I can get them for you for so cheap it will make your head spin.  The markup on those things is unbelievable.  Need ten people wanting the same thing all at once to do it.  I will even forego ANY PROFIT at all since I really believe they are a waste of time.

I'm up for it if you do it Steve.  Thanks.

are the original ones a 4 leaf?  Looks like it but can't tell for sure.  4 leaf vs 5 leaf, they are going to be different.  If the length is good, I wouldn't worry.  Slap them on there and get driving.
