FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Fan clutches » 3/27/2025 8:20 PM

I prefer a thermal fan clutch. It’s quiet till things start heating up, then you can hear the clutch engage. I can hear it on the Mustang and it’s not too loud.

I did install a heavy duty version on one of the old truck….. that one sounded like an airplane prop when it kicked in and drowned out the radio!!

Painless has a really neat sleeving material that they advertise on their website. It’s super expensive to buy from them though. So you can see what it looks like and then go search McMaster Carr. They carry the same product at a fraction of the cost.

Gotta love the smell of new paint. Will ya make weekly visits to check the progress?

Congratulations on the new adventure. You could make it a goal to drive the Mustang into the new garage/shop under its own power!! Took me 30 years to accomplish it.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Another set back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! » 3/05/2025 10:21 AM

Quality of the headlight switch and the dimmer switch will be a factor. There a huge price difference between an original switch ($115.00) and a replacement switch ($20) in NPDs catalog. I would hope an original style switch would perform better than a $20 counter part.

Can't remember what headlight switch I would up with, but it has worked OK. The dimmer switch was ACP brand, I think. I was junk from the start and never worked. I still had what Ford installed. It got cleaned up and put back in the car!!

Mufflers??? I see something that resembles a wide spot in the pipe!!!

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Minor set back today » 2/24/2025 4:27 PM

It happens, don't let it get you down.

I poured brake fluid in the car for the first time and all seemed good. There was a puddle under it the next day. One of the flares I made wasn't good enough.

The Brother-in-law sent me a message about the event. Sounds like it will be a wild time..... not sure I want a wild time. They are advertising 1500 cars for the car show at Moody Gardens. There is one way in and out so traffic could be stacked up

I can be up for a mini bash if timing works out. Need to do a few things to the car before then!!! Always something, right??.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 2025 Bash: to air condition or not? » 2/23/2025 3:22 PM

September in Texas with no AC will be miserable.

The 69 F250 I got from Pop had the add on under dash AC unit that used R12. That thing would freeze the balls off a pool table!!!  It was not uncommon to run both the AC and defroster on a rainy day. It worked well enough.

The Mustang has the vintage air unit and the first thing it does on those rainy/muggy days is fog the windshield. It takes me way longer than it should to get it clear again. It could be due to operator error!!!

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Gas Monkey found a very rare Boss 9 » 12/26/2024 5:17 PM

I'm a sucker for most car show and enjoyed watching Fast and Loud with Aaron.... I could live without the drama though. That Boss 9 was a great looking car in really good shape. Richard would be money ahead to flip it vs restoration to as new or as raced condition. It did give me some incentive to get mine going as well.

There's a guy restoring Dodges up north and I watched some of his stuff. Didn't take long for the way his attitude came across for me to stop. He wasn't worth it to see the beautiful cars in a finished state.

Are classic car prices inflated, probable so. I can't blame it all on Rawlins. Does anyone remember the Autotrader days? There would be advertisers that had Shelby's listed with a sold tag across them and a sale price that seemed high for the time. That was "good" advertising. Let it run for a few months and everyone starts to believe it's real prices.

I started watching Dennis Collins Coffee Walk. He's buying and selling, but rarely talks dollars on the camera. It's amazing how many of those cars are being liquidated by surviving spouse or kids.

Great job, John.  I hope someone new wins this year, otherwise you're going to need a new trophy cabinet.

I’m not going to win so, it won’t be going home with me.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Cruise Control install » 10/05/2024 6:58 PM

Way to go Ed. It’s needed for long trips.

I’m bought a cruise control set up right before the Michigan bash. Didn’t have time to get it installed, then lost it in the 2 moves in 4 years!! I haven’t made time to install since I found it.
