Is that a radio under the dash? Can you even hear it?
It is an aftermarket CD stereo system with front and rear speakers. He said he only used it twice in twenty years and questioned why he ever put it in at all. I doubt I will use it. Hard enough to converse with my wife while driving as it is.

I am 5 foot 9 and a bit. I do admit they are not easy to get in and out of. Probably 6 foot would be the max. I have developed what I call the "Old Man" method of perching sideways on the seat, then swinging my legs in and out one by one. It is necessary to get your right leg in under the steering wheel before bringing the left in. You need to reverse it on the way out, being careful not to get your leg close enough to the side pipe to burn it after a hot drive.

Nice car, is it a Factory Five?
There are similarities to a Factory Five, but it is actually a BRM. Boss Replica Motors. A company that operated in Burlington, Ontario for about 20 years or so. I don't know how many they produced, but I am discovering there are quite a few BRM owners in the province.

After 40 years of always wanting a Cobra, I finally have one in my garage. I purchased it from the original owner who completed the build in 2002. 8700 miles, Guardsman Blue, with Wimbledon White stripes. 5.0 H.O. with T5 transmission, and 8.8 Traction lock with coil overs all around. Very happy with it, and it is a nice addition to my 1967 coupe.

PLEASE don't make it like the Facebook groups. They seem mostly for posting photos and showing off. I have not posted here for a long time, but still check in with some regularity. I recommend this forum to all vintage Mustang owners I meet. It is the go to spot in my opinion for someone trying to figure stuff out or learn a hobby that may be new to them. Where else are you going to find a large group of experts that are able and willing to help. If the search engine thing can be addressed, by all means try to improve that. I recommend that everyone continue the word of mouth campaign like I do, with everyone you meet who owns a vintage Mustang. The membership is all over the world, so it still has an impact in this digital age.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Anyone ever run a filter on power steering return line? » 7/06/2020 8:14 AM |
I have an intermittent problem in my 67's power steering that I think is due to some crud circulating in the fluid. ( I stupidly recycled the fluid after installing new ram and valve. )
It makes a hell of a noise sometime on a left turn only. I suspected a blockage, so I drained all the fluid, hand spun the pump to get everything out, then put it together and filled with fresh new fluid. That seemed to fix it for a while, but then problem reappeared.
I am going to drain and refill with fresh again, but thinking about putting an in line fuel filter on the low pressure return line. My concern is will this restrict flow, or possibly blow apart the filter?
Thoughts, or other solutions?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Engine pull without removing Hood?? » 6/23/2020 2:02 PM |
Has anyone ever pulled and reinstalled a small block from a 67 without removing the hood?
I have pretty fresh paint and do not want to take the hood off. If you strip down the motor and leave the tranny in place, can it be done without bumping into the hood with the cherry picker? I have always found that you have to lift pretty high to get the pan over the front rad cradle. Never tried with a hood in place before.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Does anybody sell an outer wheel house lower patch? » 6/12/2019 7:20 PM |
I am sure I am not the only one to run into this. Have a drivers quarter panel on a 67 that only needs a lower patch panel put in to fix the limited rust holes. However, in removing the damaged section found that just a few inches of the bottom corner of the wheel house is also rusted out. I can't find anyone who sells a patch for this?
Huge numbers of quarter patches have been sold and applied over the years. It seems ridiculous to have to do a full wheel house replacement when a small formed patch would suffice. Anybody know of a supplier that offers this?
I am sure they could sell one with almost every quarter patch sold.
Thanks.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » cast iron manifolds on aluminum heads? » 12/11/2018 3:39 PM |
Thanks for your input MS. from the sounds of what you are describing I should go with headers instead. Do not want to get involved with grinding the head or manifolds. My main motivation for the manifolds over headers was that the complete exhaust kits I have been buying for years and that fit great come with the H pipe for manifolds only. If I go with headers I will have to come up with an H pipe to fit.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » cast iron manifolds on aluminum heads? » 11/29/2018 6:43 PM |
Is there any reason not to use the original cast iron exhaust manifolds on a rebuilt 1967 289 that now has edlebrock aluminum heads? Any precautions to take? Thanks.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Is anybody running 205/65/15 on torq thrust rims? - 67 or 68 fitment? » 7/19/2017 1:22 PM |
I just test fit my new rims 15 x 7 Torq Thrust D rims with 3.76 back spacing and -6 offset. with BFG 205/65/15 tires and am concerned a bit about the rears. They appear to sit about 1/8" to 3/16" past the inner edge of the wheel lip.
I did all my homework on rims and tires beforehand and these should fit fine, but I am concerned about rubbing. New paint, so lip rolling in NOT an option.
This complete rim & tire package, in these sizes, are listed and sold by many Mustang suppliers, so I have to assume it will not be a problem, but would like reassurances from anybody that is running the same set up on a stock suspension. My leaf springs are new and all shocks, steering and suspension components are new.
Thanks
I don't seem to be able to attach a picture. Doing some straight edge lines I have determined that it is only the side wall that extends beyond the inner wheel lip. The tire edge clears it just fine. With the full weight resting on the springs, and wheel mounted, there is room for exactly 3 inches of travel before wheel lip edge would make contact with side wall. Is this enough space to not worry about it??

You have already covered the brake pedal and the wiring harness. As mentioned the firewall clamp is different. The clamps that attach the 68 column to the dash are also quite different from 67. If you have all the 68 style clamps to match up with the 68 column, it should be a direct bolt in. I have done it several times.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Can a vent window assembly be removed without removing the door glass? » 8/09/2016 3:25 PM |
Have a 67 coupe that I need to replace the door runners on both sides and the vent glass on one side.
In the past I have removed everything, starting with the door glass, but would rather not have to redo it all this time. Fitment and alignment is perfect. Is it possible to remove just the vent glass assembly and leave the door glass, crank mechanism and internals in place? Will the door glass fall down at the front without the front run, or will I over stress anything if I let the door glass hang after removing the vent glass assembly and it's supporting track?
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Replacement cast hinges on a 67 » 7/15/2016 10:05 AM |
I have the early cast style hinges on a my 67. The pin for the pivot on the lower drivers hinge is broken off flush. There is no access from the bottom and I can't get it out.
Replacement cast hinges listed for 65/66 are not much more than a repair kit. Is there any reason these hinges will not fit on a 67? I know the 68 style steel hinge is the listed replacement for a 67 but I don't want mismatched hinges on the car.
Is there any difference between the hole locations for a 65/66 cast hinge and the cast hinges that were used in 67? Will the replacement 65/66 cast hinge bolt directly onto a 67 door and post?
Thanks
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » What diameter is the fuel line, pump to carb supposed to be? » 7/13/2016 10:59 AM |
It's a stock 302, no mods. After posting, I realized that NPD lists the entire line right from the tank for 289 engines at 5/16". Looks like they only went to 3/8" in 68. I happened to have 68 lines on hand in the 3/8" size from a previous project.
I think I am going to stick with my existing stock pre-bent 5/16" line for the pump to carb run. It already fits perfectly.
Thanks for the reassurances.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » What diameter is the fuel line, pump to carb supposed to be? » 7/13/2016 7:28 AM |
I have a 67 Mustang with a 302 in it. All the new fuel lines from tank to pump are 3/8"
I have a pre-bent original steel line from pump to carb, but it is only 5/16"
Are all the pump to carb lines 5/16" or are they supposed to be 3/8" as well? Is the short run of slightly smaller 5/16" that I have going to be a problem for fuel supply to the 302 if I use it? or should I buy a new pump to carb line in 3/8" diameter. The NPD listings make no mention of what the diameter of the lines are.
Thanks
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 12 volt ignition power source on 1967 Mustang for Pertronix » 6/24/2016 7:27 AM |
This is the thought I had that would avoid cutting any of the harness.
Run a direct 12 volt feed to a standard relay switch. Then use the brown wire "I" terminal post off the starter relay to act as the trigger to turn on the external relay switch and send 12 volts to the distributor.
The brown wire "I" terminal is fed directly from the ignition switch via the pink wire under the dash so it should be hot in start and run only. The lower voltage should be no problem in terms of just triggering the relay. I have used this same approach to deal with horns that are not getting enough juice to function.
Is there any flaw with my logic??
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 12 volt ignition power source on 1967 Mustang for Pertronix » 6/23/2016 2:29 PM |
I have a pertronix ignition in my 67 Mustang V8 project. I do not want to cut the existing resistor wire, just want to bypass it with a direct 12 volt switched ignition source.
What is the easiest tap for this that will only supply power when the key is in the run position. Prefer it is under the dash so it is hidden.
Anybody got a diagram or can identify the wire. Are there any existing open switched plugs under the dash I can use?
Thanks
