After twice a day for about 2 weeks spraying dash pad with Aerospace Protectant 303 I was able to remove it without any damage to pad. The speaker area was soft and also  undamaged  So, intact old pad can be saved. It looks good too!! No eye brow sag.

I have access to a 1968 Mustang dash pad that looks perfect. Problem it its in a car that has been sitting in the sun for approx. 15 years. Before I attempt to remove it is there anything I should treat it with to reduce the possibly cracking?

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Revising project & need guidance » 6/29/2026 11:14 AM

I would like to extend a BIG thank you to everyone responding to my inquiries.
I did acquire assembly manuals as suggested.  More importantly, I appreciate the suggestions as to how to sequence doing things.  Assembly manuals are helpful but suggestions from experience is even more important.
Thank you again!

I do have another specific question:
What are you guys using for insulation (floor and door)?
Dynamat seems to be a good product, but expensive!  Is there anything that can have similar results?
The car is going to be used a few times in the summer and going to some events.  It would seem putting money into functional components vs insulation, would be more logical.
Is there anything almost as good but less expensive?

Thank you!

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Revising project & need guidance » 5/31/2026 1:22 PM

Basically the car has been stripped, repaired and primed.  The disassembly was about 13 years ago.  I have no idea what I'm doing anymore.  How do I start putting thing together?

!.  Do I connect steering linkage and steering column or install brake/clutch pedals first?
2.  Before the above, do I install insulation?  Is it cut out around pedal assembly, gas pedal?  OR just bolted through?  Is insultation under the AC unit to firewall?
3.A hydro boost needs to be installed and plumbed.  Should the steering column go in first?
4. When do I start installing wiring, does wiring go over insulation, or under, to protect it?
5.  Do we put dash pad in before or after wiring?  How about AC tubing?  Does it go before dash pad wiring?
6. I started to install air and have OEM vents, side and center, but not sure how to mount into dash frame.  Does anyone have any photos as to how Ford did the original installation?
If you can send pics please send to :  JJ4051@aol.com

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Awaking of a 13 year old Mustang project » 5/02/2026 3:49 PM

I started a project and the goal was to improve handling and HP of a 1968 6-cylinder convertible. (In about 2013).  Life got in the way and project got stalled. Car has a Heidts Mustang II with power steering. I managed to fit the engine and tranny from a1998 Cobra into the 68. When I started this project, I thought I knew enough to work my way through any problems I encountered - especially with BB's help with wiring. He made a harness that would blend into the stock '68. Now I realize that I have forgotten most of what I thought I known.  For example, I could no longer  remember how to remount the steering column.  I had to find a '68 to see how the parts related to get it installed.

About 2013, there was another Mustang Steve's car guy putting the 4.6 DOHC into a '67 or '68.  I think he was from Indiana.  Any one remember him?  If so does anyone have a name or contact information?  I thought he had posted some pictures of his project.  Any pictures would be a great help.  Of course, if i could talk to him, hopefully his memory is better than mine.

I've tried Google and UTube and am getting nowhere.  Any help / guidance would be appreciated. I'd accept help from ANYONE that could assist me with this installation/combination.  (1998 Cobra engine and transmission into a '68 convertible.)

I test tried 1998 Cobra Mustang seats  too wide and too high I was using the 68 seat rails. The 98 were much too high. That  is why I am hoping a some what newer Mustang convertible seat would work. TMI only option??

Question for Rudi or anyone else. Where did you place the receiver for key fob signal?

Thank you Rudy for reply and links. Electric life only lists front windows. I don't know if I want to pop a $1000. for power windows -- that would buy a lot of pizza. I had though about connection the two rear windows like you did Rudy. srj
