FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » I am done with Craftsman tools » 6/01/2015 8:33 AM |
I've had the same set of Craftsman sockets and wrenches for 30 years. I bought ah second set to replace some lost peices shorty there after. I've only had 1 ratchet break, and that was because as ah kid, I had ah habit of using it as ah hammer. I don't know if the other brands offer this but , I bought ah set of 6 point wrenches about 15 years ago and I love em. I find myself grabbing the 6 points first and the 12 points only if the bolt is in ah tight spot. The 6 points just fit the bolt head tighter and are much less likely to strip the head. However from my expereince Craftsman power tools are crap! Impact wrench, weed wacher, cordless drills, jigsaw, all junk, and after some research I found that most of them are just relabled China crap. FYI ,( Kmart and Summit racing), now sell Craftsman tools. I'm not sure of there return/replacment policies. Kmart mite be hard to find ah non-mouth breather these day's, who know's what ah hand tool is, much less the fact that your supposed to be able to exchange it? But it's worth ah try I guess if you feel like taking the time to retrain there staff for them ...
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Undercoatings » 5/21/2015 7:48 AM |
Well based on my past experiance with under coatings is that they don't really cover that well (there not paint) and if not painted first you will get little rust spots popping up. My plan is to prime, paint, truck bed liner, then under coating / sound deadener. The truck bed liners are much more durable then under coating alone , but don't offer any sound deadening. You'll hear every pebble on the road pinging of the bottom of the car. That's way I'll be going over it with the under coating.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » I'm not a big fan of vinyl tops....butt (TS&T) » 5/02/2015 9:02 PM |
Okay I'll chime in......( #1) I think the blue it beatiful just the way it is....(#2) The vinyl top theme wouldn't match the cragar wheels, and the car would need whitewalls and hubcaps.... (#3) I think vinyl tops are a corny attempt at making a coupe LOOK like a convertible.... (#4) Vinyl tops have sent more cars to the crusher do to rotted out roofs then hurricane Katrina.... (#5) Resale value! Most people would pass on buying a Mustang with a vinyl top, thus it would be harder to sell and the price would be lower.

Agree , Or just ah set of 65- 289 heads, they have a much smaller combustion chamber. Those 302 heads are stealing compression from yah. Starting in 66 they made the combustion chambers larger for better fuel economy.

First thing I would do is get ahold of a cooling system tester, fill the radiator with coolant and then pressurize the radiator, you may get some idea how bad the leak is and where it is coming from.
Good Idea Duane! O'reilly's you can use one for free. Just put in on the Credit Card and Bring it back in 48 hours. They'll credit your card back. That should point you in the right direction instead of Guessing. Steve69
X3!! It could just end up being the intake leaking into 1 cyclinder. Ask me how I know
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Another ebay treasure for someone. » 4/25/2015 10:10 AM |
I'll have to say this one is done with ah lot more thought then most where they just slap ah body on top of ah truck frame. They used the original unibody of the car and just retro fitted what looks like old bronco front swing arms + brackets for the front axle. Then just ah simple crossmember for the transfer case. Kidda reminds me of the cherry 2000 car....

I've bin cheating on my mustang too, Bin busy working on the Army truck for my buisness. Added ah Banks sidewinder turbo, Gear vendors overdrive unit, and numerous other things to make it ah highway hauler. Now, after all that I may be shutting down my buisness and starting ah career in the film industry.

As I recall?, There's ah little rib cast into the matting surface of the thermostat housing to apply added pressure to the center of the gasket. If you've machined that off flat, that may be most of your problem. In addition, like BB said if you've machined down that flange, thus making it thinner, It may be flexing more now as you tighten it? Do you have an old housing laying around that you could do ah quick swap, and test?

Every shim I've ever seen had ah bread tie holding ah few of them together through that hole. Thats all it's for is to tie them together, and or hold them all in place while your fiddling with the upper control arm bolts.

This of course is ah great idea to remake classic cars, especially the mustang with it's past and presant popularity. But they'll never fly at that price! In fact who in there right mind would pay that for ah mildly resto modded mustang! Not when you can buy ah new shelby , corvette Z06, Viper, jaguar, aston martin, porsche, ferrari, and the list goes on, for that price! I am curios as to how there titling these things? Especially in FL, it may not be the craziest state to get ah car titled in but not buy much. I would assume there calling them "Kit cars".
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Pedal support mods » 2/25/2015 8:21 AM |
When I did my upper and lower cowl replacment, I noticed the fire wall on these cars moves like the bottom of an oil can! So this is the mod I came up with.......This was half way through, I welded up most of these holes and the seam across the top of the pic. The plate is 1/8" and the tubing is 3/4"X3/4"X16-gauge

DON"T DO ANY STOP LEAK PRDUCTS!!! Gimmick fix in ah bottle products WILL, do more harm then good in the long run. Whats the year, make, engine, and model of your truck? I'll see if I can find ah rad on line thats in your price range.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Another off mustang topic » 2/18/2015 9:48 PM |
Well I did ah quick Ebay search, and the prices are all over the place with these trucks? I was looking for ah 59 before I went off the deep end and bought an Army truck. These shoe box body fords were concidered the ugly duckling of the f- series trucks and therefore were left to rot. I myself like them, Soo ugly there cool yah know? Now there getting harder to find, especially the 4X4's. It's kinda borderline wether you should restore ah truck like this, vs use it as ah hunting truck? My opinion, if your looking to do some off roading I'd go for somthing from the 70's or 80's. there cheap to buy, plentiful, and still easy ,and cheap to fix. Not to mention better axles, and more after market parts avalible. Where as parts will be much harder to track down for this truck.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Tuning with vacuum , need help » 2/13/2015 2:44 PM |
Well then it looks like you may have some sort of valve issue. One or more of your valves may not be closing all the way. I'd start by doing a compression test to see if you can narrow it down to one, or more cylinders. Then if you have ones that read low I'd check the valve lash to see if somone just over tightened the rockers. If not I'd pull those rockers, and smack the top of the valves with ah rubber mallet to see if one or more are sticking.

Derek, he said he was hooked to manifold vacuum, exactly like your Holley video said to do.
Gaba, does it run well? If you had not put the gauge on it, would you think it was running well?
I would think a 50 mile test of gas mileage, with the known inaccuracies of the Mustang gas gauges, would NOT be a good indicator of what mileage you are getting, especially if you are on the lower end of the gas gauge scale. If you fill the tank full, you might get 200 miles on 1/4 tank. Run a tankfull through. And again, if it is running well, put the gauge back in the toolbox.
I cannot remember... Did you adjust the valves on this engine?
Use this article. It has 15 scenarios where it shows what the gauge reads and tells you why. CLick each of the 15 boxes.
The best place to take your readings is from the carb base plate. If you pull from further down stream , such as the manifold, your getting more turbulant air. And just ah sample of air /fuel from only ah couple runners. If you pull from the base, your reading ALL the air fuel mix. Or as they say "straight from the horese's mouth"
