I had a similar issue in a 94 once that the PO had thrown every part imaginable at in an attempt to fix it.
Turned out to be a dirty sensor wire in the MAF sensor. a Q-tip and denatured alcohol cured it perfectly.
Worth a try.

I've read 200 lbs. for the entire body.
Sounds like a lot of money, at first, until you think about how massive an undertaking this is.

So, if its a 4WD Explorer, witll the trans work as is, or will a 2WD tailshaft swap be necessary? (If thats even possible)

A 4WD output shaft is much shorter than a 2WD output shaft and a 4WD output shaft has no teeth machined into it for a speedometer driven gear/speed sensor.

Splines are longer on 2WD because the drive shaft slip yoke has to have enough length to slide on the splines. 4WD output shaft connects directly to the transfer case within a (very short) extension (tail) housing --no yoke sliding back and forth on the 4WD output shaft splines.

Longer 2WD 4R70W output shaft compared to shorter 4WD output shaft.

Difference in 2WD extension housing on left compared to 4WD extension housing on right.

There are also two different length 2WD output shafts and two different length 2WD extension housings. Crown Vic and some other Ford vehicles got the longer output shafts/extension housings. Mustangs got the shorter version. --you would just need to do your research to see exactly what all vehicles had the longer output shaft/extension housing version and which had the shorter version.

The output shaft is the first thing that gets installed into the case, when rebuilding the transmission. This means in order to change the output shaft, EVERYTHING has to come out of the case, first, to get to it.

Cliff's Notes: If its out of a 4WD Explorer, it would probably be easier to find a different trans. Preferably from a 1998 or newer.

Teflon tape won't help with flare fittings.
The early cars had a 1 piece steering shaft, and the later cars had a removeable, collapsible steering shaft. All 69s have the collapsible shaft standard, meaning its compatible with the borgeson box.

Don't believe the Venture has a doghouse. Isn't it a transverse FWD?

Yeah, if someone does a search with a similar problem and the original thread pops up, it would be good if the soltion were there, instead of a stand alone post.
Glad you figgered it out.

Not really THAT much money to buy a set and give it a whirl. Definitely a better starting point than a bunch of straights.

But if he powers the compressor off the driveshaft, it's not gonna turn much in stop and go traffic.
I've only seen alternators driven off the driveshaft, not A/C...

Thanks guys. I agree, MS. I always cheerfully accepted the delays, reiterating I'd rather have it look great than done quick....I'm reserving final judgement until after its buffed.

Stopped by the shop today to watch the clear going on.... a few days to cure and buff, then she can come back home.
Must be last Thanksgiving already, because that was the first promised completion date.
Hopefully I'll feel up to reassembling her right away..

Heres one I ran across on FB. Rarely are the factory lines improved upon, but I believe this one knocks it out of the park.  I'd drive it proudly.

As a matter of fact, I just sold my old radial arm saw to Emerson. $100, they supplied the box and paid for the shipping. Cheaper for them than defending lawsuits.

I did the same thing. I believe a guy could make a good side living buying them off CL for $50 and selling them to Emerson, unless there is a "1 per household" clause or something...

I have a buddy  who works for Emerson Electric, who told years ago their CEO and Sears CEO had an agreement that Sears would give Emerson exclusive rights to make all the Craftsman tools as long as he was CEO. When he retired, they went offshore without telling Emerson their plans, leaving Emerson hanging....
Sooo, Emerson courted Home Depot and got the Husky acct. to replace the lost Sears business.
I believe him, because I see a lot of the old Craftsman in the Husky tools.

As an aside, Emerson is still eating losses for old Craftsman radial arm saws they are buying back to get off the market, even though they no longer have a business relationship.

Well said, TKO. THere is speculation that classic car prices will drop in the next decade, because the next generation as a whole isn't as interested in classic cars....I don't know if its true, I sure hope it isn't.
