I bought this coupe in 1980 from the original owner. Shortly after I got it home I began to disassemble it to start the restoration! Well, life got in the way of finishing it and I ended up with three 65 Coupes in my stable. Have one that runs well that I drive on sunny days. I recently sold the first mustang I bought new on January 6th in 1965. Now it’s time to let this one go.

Let me tell you about the mustang that is for sale:
VIN: 5RO7A201263. It has been in my garage and out of the weather since the day I bought it which was 38 years ago. It still has the original black paint it came with from the factory. The engine has been pulled and is in the same condition it was when I got it. I suspect it will need some work. As I began to tear it down, to my delight, I discovered it was a rust free body. Floor, rear quarter panel, even the seam sealer in the rain gutters are perfect!!. You will be hard pressed to find any mustang ready to be restored in this excellent condition. One of the doors was in very bad shape so it has been tossed, so it needs a door. I am also including a brand new factory Ford fender I purchased directly from Ford in 1983.

I have a good idea what this car is worth so I am not going to dicker on the price. It is my hope that this mustang finds its way into the hands of someone who will want to restore it to its former glory.

I’m asking $5,000 for it and located in Portland Oregon.

Here is a Dropbox link with some pictures and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

66 mustang 6 cyl. Blasted solenoid sticking. Need some new ideas please! Cleaned all grounds (yes, the ground between block and chassis) two new after market solenoids, third one from Landmark Ford, (local) This one from ford has no 12 volt stud for ignition but not needed as we have changed to Pertronics and use 12 volts. Cranks strong, but about every third start solenoid sticks!!! Also new reman starter, act like old one. Not sure where to go? Thank you!!!

Be careful about prying on pitman arm, only 3/8 adjustment bolt at top of box trying to take the pressure generated by pry bar. A puller is much better solution!!

Installed Borg box couple years ago! Very happy with it!! Doesant center quickly but neither does my other two newer cars? Not an issue with me. Got bout 3 degrees of caster and this 65 drives like a dream!!!! One of the best mods Ive done. BTW, my Borg kit came with U joint, would prefer rag joint however. Howard

Interesting discussion! Will add this Recently attended my uncle Olen's 95th Fighter Gp. Reunion in San Diago. Seven original P38 pilots were there, all 95 or older. One drove from Arizona to San Diego alone!!! Can you believe that?

Be sure and check crankshaft end play, you may have sprung the bearing side thrust plates. If not enough end play clearance the bearing could seize, spin and wreck crank and block. Just make sure you have end play!!!

Thanks Jeff, since 12 volts and not the reduced voltage of resistor wire works OK going thru the RallyPac tach?

Will the Borgenson box work in your Ranchero? IMHO, a better choice!

Kinda quite lately so thought I would bring up this issue again.
65 289 with Duraspark ignition. Has anyone hooked up stock
Rally Pac to Duraspark ignition? And was it successful?
Just cant see any way it would work? What say you?

Why not unplug resistor wire under dash, run new wire from there to coil? Simple and works.

I've found white grease in a rattle can works excellent! Sprays on very liquid then stiffens up when solvents dry. Goes in all the crooks and crannies. Howard

Well, here's my two cents worth on stretchey bolts. Have been messin with infernal combustion engines since 1953.
There is a place for "Torque to yield bolts". Aluminum Heads for one big one. See no need on cast iron heads. Torque to Yield are softer bolts, have you tried to torque to 70 lbs? They keep stretching! Cant torque a 7/16 bolt to torque settings. Howard

If fact last October I worked(manned a shower trailer) in Omak, WA fires. About 20 volunteersfrom Texas helped with fire cleanup for ten days or so.Great folks!!!Howard
