Randy.
Sounds like the same problem I had trying to fit a '66 instrument panel in a '65.
Found out the bottom of the dash panel is shaped different.(small crescent cut out to clear speedo housing)
Don't know if this applies to your situation.

Mike,
Same repair on my left side door .
Careful welding with MIG turned down, decent spacing for penetration, go slow and presto.
Like new door. I used dimples from a bad door. I think the dimples are available to repair this area.

Cab
do you have the wiring diagram?
Check that you have power to the column before the modular plug then after.
Possible that pins are not making good connection.
Looking at wiring diagram looks like orange with light blue stipe is one side
Light green with orange stripe is the other side

Bodyshells weigh  less than 750 lbs bare.
1/8" wall thickness is plenty strong.
I made the spider and door opening braces for my vert from 1/16"
wall 3/4" square steel tubing.
no movement when installed on Rotisserie.
For full body carts VMF site has a few threads with great Pics.

You should place the front pair of jack stands at the pinch weld  directly under the door post.
Level the car front to rear and side to side and your good to go.

Thought I would get y'all up to speed on Ol' Paint.
I finished the repairs to the right side wheel house al the welded seams are finished to brushable seam sealer. The lower rear patch behind wheel is fitted and welded about halfway. Replaced the outer door skin on left side from the lower body line down. This allowed me to remove the rust and prime inside of lower door. Lengthened the drain holes and finished door bottom with Rustoleum industrial undercoating. Right side door is toast . If anybody on the forum has a line on a right side door please pass on to me.

PS
All of this happened without pictures. LOL

After I clean any metal by blasting or sanding or whatever method.
Treat with Kleen Strip Prep and etch mixed to a 25% solution and spray on using a garden sprayer it will dry to a powdery look but will protect surface from oxidizing further.

Kevin,
My original hood had hood pin holes trashed into it .
The holes were filled with fiberglass and bondo.
When I stripped the hood the repair was not to painful.
Used some left over sheet metal from quarter panel repairs.
Careful fitment and slowly stich welding it fixed both sides,
Yes I agree replacement panels do not fit well if at all.
